    • Stays hot at plate
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Athletics.

Advice: Alvarez extended his hitting streak to six games, three of which have been multi-hit efforts. He also has five extra-base hits in that span, an important step forward in his production given his surprisingly low .192 ISO across 219 plate appearances to start the campaign. • Not in Friday's lineup
Lowe (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Advice: The 26-year-old departed Wednesday's contest with a right side strain and was sent for an MRI on Thursday, the results of which remain unknown. Lowe will sit for at least one game and should be considered day-to-day until more information is available. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:19 pm

    • Josh Lowe (side) absent from Friday’s lineup
Josh Lowe (side) is out of the Rays’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Lowe left Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox with right side tightness and was subsequently sent for an MRI. The Rays probably wouldn’t have submitted their lineup already if Lowe was being placed on the injured list today. For now, no update on Lowe’s status is potentially a good update. • Swipes two bags in win
Mullins went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Mullins grounded into a fielder's choice in his first at-bat before going on to steal second and third and coming home for Baltimore's first run of the contest. He would add a single and come around to score during a four-run fourth inning for the Orioles, giving him only his second multi-hit performance this month. Mullins is batting just .160 (8-for-50) in May, though he's swiped four bags over his last five games. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:19 am

    • Rays waiting on Josh Lowe (side) IL decision
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports the Rays will wait until Friday before making a decision whether Josh Lowe (side) will require a trip to the injured list.

Advice: Topkin added that an injured list stint seems likely, but Tampa Bay wants to wait and see how he feels on Friday before making a final decision. Rays manager Kevin Cash delivered an ominous “not ideal” statement to reporters following Lowe’s early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness. The 26-year-old five-category impact fantasy contributor dealt with a similar issue back in spring training and underwent an MRI on Thursday to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status at some point prior to Friday’s series opener against the Royals. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:15 pm

    • TJ Friedl hopes to take batting practice soon
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, TJ Friedl (broken thumb) “continues to progress” and hopes to take “batting practice soon.”

Advice: TJ Friedl is back to hitting off flips as he works back from a broken thumb. Once he is able to take batting practice, his next step will likely be live at-bats and a rehab assignment. It’s possible that he could be back around mid-June but it will depend on how his thumb feels while taking live swings. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:15 am

    • Hitting flipped pitches
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list. • Headed for MRI
Lowe will undergo an MRI on his right side Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Manager Kevin Cash labeled Lowe's injury as a "right side strain," though the exact nature of the outfielder's issue will become known once his MRI results come back. Lowe landed on the injured list during spring training due to a right oblique strain and missed the first month-plus of the regular season, and it's possible he could require another stint on the IL due to his latest flareup. • Josh Lowe (side) heading for MRI on Thursday
Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Josh Lowe will undergo an MRI exam on his injured side on Thursday.

Advice: Cash also termed the injury “not ideal” saying that it’s being called a right side strain for the time being. We’ll know more on Thursday regarding how long Lowe may be sidelined for, but it sounds like a return trip to the injured list is going to be in order. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:42 pm
