    • Secures save Tuesday
Estevez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The Angels rallied ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Estevez made the lead stand. The closer has allowed four runs (three earned) over 8.1 innings in May while adding three saves, one blown save and two losses. He's at a 4.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB over 17 innings this season, but he continues to operate in the closer role despite his shaky pitching. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Carlos Estévez notches eighth save against Yankees
Carlos Estévez recorded his eighth save with a flawless ninth Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: The rare perfect inning from Estévez pulled his ERA back down to 4.76. He did go without a strikeout for a third straight appearance, but it’s unlikely that anyone with the Angels noticed. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
    • Records 11th save
Bednar allowed two hits but hung on for a scoreless inning and a save in Saturday's 4-1 win over Atlanta.

Advice: Tasked with protecting a three-run lead, Bednar retired the first two batters of the ninth inning before back-to-back hits put the tying run in Ronald Acuna at the plate. The closer then got Acuna to ground into a fielder's choice to thwart the threat. After blowing three save chances in seven tries to start the season, Bednar has successfully converted each of his last seven opportunities. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:12 pm

    • David Bednar works around jam to get save vs. ATL
David Bednar worked around two hits to get a save with a scoreless inning against Atlanta on Saturday.

Advice: Bednar put the tying run at the plate in the form of Ronald Acuña Jr., but he was able to get Acuña Jr. to hit into a fielder’s choice. The 29-year-old has had his share of struggles in 2024, but he was able to lower his ERA to 6.75 while picking up his 11th save. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:42 pm

    • Nabs win in 10th
Bednar (3-3) picked up the win Tuesday, striking out one in a perfect 10th inning during a 7-6 victory over the Giants.

Advice: After the Pirates rallied for four runs in the ninth, Bednar got the call for the top of the 10th and set down three straight pinch hitters in Mike Yastrzemski, LaMonte Wade and Patrick Bailey. The right-hander then got rewarded when Nick Gonzales walked it off by singling on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the frame. Bednar has turned things around following a bumpy first month of the season, and over 10 appearances in May he's posted a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 9.1 innings while converting all five of his save chances and chipping in two wins. • Takes loss in 10th
Estevez (0-3) took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday after allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk while managing to record one out.

Advice: Estevez had no room for error after the Angels failed to score in the top of the 10th and was stuck with facing the heart of the Astros lineup. Yordan Alvarez was intentionally walked to start the inning, and then Alex Bregman was retired before giving up the game-winning hit to Jeremy Pena. Estevez has now pitched on back-to-back days and in three of the last four and likely will have the day off Wednesday. He now owns a 5.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB in 16 innings. • Carlos Estévez takes loss in 10th versus Astros
Carlos Estévez dropped to 0-3 after allowing the automatic runner to score in the 10th against the Astros on Tuesday.

Advice: Estévez had no cushion after the Angels failed to score in the top of the inning, and he was stuck facing the heart of the Astros order with Kyle Tucker on second. The decision was made to walk Yordan Alvarez to start the inning. Estevez then retired Alex Bregman before giving up a game-winning hit to Jeremy Peña. We’re not at all impressed by the job that Estévez is going, but this one doesn’t reflect badly on him. Since both Estévez and Hunter Strickland were pitching for the second straight day tonight, Adam Cimber might be in line for a save chance Wednesday. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:02 pm
    • Allows run but converts save
Estevez allowed a run on two hits and a walk without striking out a batter over one inning, earning the save in Monday's 9-7 win over the Astros.

Advice: Estevez's last two outings came in non-save situations after he blew a save May 10 versus the Royals. The closer is now 7-for-10 in save chances this season, though there are some warning signs reemerging after he struggled late in 2023. He's now at a 5.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB through 15.2 innings this season. As long as the walk rate stays down, Estevez should be able to right the ship, but he's allowed multiple baserunners in six of his last 10 outings. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:19 pm
    • Carlos Estévez records save after allowing run
Carlos Estévez picked up his seventh save despite giving up a run in the ninth Monday against the Astros.

Advice: Estévez gave up two hits and a walk after the outstanding fortune of Jo Adell denying Yainer Diaz a possible homer or at least a double to begin the inning. Estévez is sporting a 5.17 ERA through 15 2/3 innings this season, and he’s lucky that neither Robert Stephenson (out for the season) or José Soriano (in the rotation) is currently an alternative in the closer’s role for the Angels.
