    • Goes seven strong to earn win
      Eovaldi (3-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings against the Giants. He struck out five.

      Advice: Eovaldi was staked to a 5-0 lead after two and cruised through seven, merely allowing single runs in each of the third and fourth innings as he rolled to his third victory. More importantly, he was also extended to near his full workload, completing seven innings on 90 pitches after tossing 37 and 71 in his previous two starts following a nearly four-week stint on the IL with a groin injury. It was the seventh start out of 10 for Eovaldi with at least five innings while allowing two or fewer runs. He'll carry a 2.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP into his next start, likely to take place next weekend when the Rangers travel to Seattle for a weekend showdown against the Mariners.       Nathan Eovaldi allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings in a win over the Giants on Sunday.

      Advice: Eovaldi also struck out five and walked one on the day. He pounded the zone regularly on the day with a 37 percent CSW and 24 percent whiff rate and his only real mistake was a solo home run to Mike Yastrzemski.       Ryan (4-5) was stuck with the loss Friday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Ryan was excellent Friday, but the Twins couldn't muster any offense against Mitch Keller in an eventual 3-0 defeat. Despite the loss, it was a strong bounce-back effort from Ryan after he allowed five runs in five innings in a loss to Houston in his last outing.       Joe Ryan allowed two runs in seven innings and took the loss against the Pirates on Friday night.



      Advice: Ryan gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight. The runs against Ryan came on an Oneil Cruz solo home run and a sacrifice fly by Nick Gonzales. He pitched well but didn’t get any run support from the Twins lineup. Ryan had won three of his last five previous starts. His ERA is now 3.30 on the season. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rockies at home next week.

    • Lacks command in loss
      Gray (7-4) allowed three runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Thursday.

      Advice: The four walks were a season high for Gray, and he also uncorked two wild pitches, one of which allowed a run to score in the fifth inning. Gray's control issues have manifested with five straight starts where he's allowed multiple walks, and he's failed to complete six innings in any of his last four outings. The right-hander is now at a 3.21 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 82:19 K:BB over 61.2 innings through 11 starts this season. Gray is projected to make his next start at home versus the Pirates.       Sonny Gray allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Rockies on Thursday.



      Advice: Gray gave up two hits, walked four and struck out five. It was an uneven start for Gray, who threw 89 pitches. He had two wild pitches, one of which allowed a run to score. Gray also had a pitch clock violation. While his ERA increased to 3.21 on the year, his xFIP is much lower at 2.64.     • Jordan Montgomery’s struggles continue vs. Giants
      Jordan Montgomery was torched for six runs over two innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Montgomery kicked off the contest with a pair of scoreless frames before coming completely unraveled in a calamitous third inning when San Francisco struck for six runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. He finished with two strikeouts and also issued one walk. The 31-year-old lefty has been hit extremely hard in his Arizona debut so far, allowing six earned runs in back-to-back outings and three of his nine starts so far since April 19. He’ll bring a bloated 6.80 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 29/18 K/BB ratio across 46 1/3 innings (nine starts).       Advice: The southpaw held the Giants off the board for two innings, but things fell apart quickly in the third, highlighted by Wilmer Flores' grand slam -- the first slam Montgomery has ever served up in his career. The 31-year-old has been tagged for 14 runs in only six innings over his last two starts, and he'll carry a 6.80 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 29:18 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Angels.
