      José Alvarado pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in the Phillies’ 5-2 win over the Rangers.

      Advice: Alvarado did allow a hit, but he also struck out two and was in no real danger in the inning as he picked up his ninth save of the year. Despite it seeming like the Phillies would go to a closer-by-committee situation earlier in the year, Alvarado has recorded four of the team’s six saves during the month and has now allowed eight hits while striking out six and walking none in 8 2/3 innings.       Andrés Muñoz served up a solo home run against the Orioles in the ninth inning on Saturday, but managed to escape the frame with a one-run lead to earn his eighth save of the season.

      Advice: Muñoz came on after the Mariners scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to take the lead, and despite the solo homer he made it stand up. He struck out Cedric Mullins and got Kyle Stowers to line out to first base to start the inning. The 25-year-old right-hander then fell behind Gunnar Henderson and served up a two-out, solo blast that pulled the Orioles to within a run. That would be as close as they would get though as he punched out Adley Rutschman to end it. Munoz now holds a 1.86 ERA to go along with eight saves and a pair of victories on the season.       Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

      Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame with the score tied 4-4 and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to J.D. Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to give the Mets an insurance run.       Munoz gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Royals.

      Advice: Austin Voth ran into trouble in the eighth inning, so Munoz got the call with runners on second and third and only one out to protect a 3-1 lead. The Mariners' closer did allow an inherited runner to score, but Seattle got the run right back in the bottom of the frame and Munoz dominated the ninth. It's the fourth time this season he's worked more than one inning to notch a save, and with Matt Brash (elbow) done for the year and Gregory Santos (lat) potentially not back until the All-Star break, Munoz may have to continue putting in extra work until Seattle settles on a new setup crew.
