• Earns eighth win
Allen (8-3) earned the win Thursday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks across six innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Allen did not start off well, allowing a leadoff single to J.P. Crawford followed by a homer to Dylan Moore, but he allowed just one more run the rest of the way to earn his eighth win and complete his fifth quality start of the season. Allen, who also hit a batter on the day, continues to struggle with missing bats, having struck out just eight batters over the last three starts spanning 17 innings after having struck out 51 across 58.2 innings during his first 12 outings. Despite the dearth of strikeouts during this most recent stretch, Allen's ERA stands at 3.17 over the last three games as opposed to 5.83 during the 12 games prior. Things will not get easier for his next start as he's currently scheduled to take on the Orioles in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:46 pm

  • Irvin allows five in no-decision Thursday
Cole Irvin allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Orioles’ 17-5 victory over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Irvin gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two. He didn’t complete five innings and thus didn’t qualify for the win in the Orioles’ blowout victory, a brutal beat for fantasy managers. Irvin is having a solid year with a 3.45 ERA and six wins. The 30-year-old left-hander is set to face the Guardians at home next week. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:32 pm

  • Zack Littell allows two in no-decision vs. Twins
Zack Littell allowed two runs in five innings without qualifying for a decision Thursday against the Twins.

Advice: Littell bounced back nicely from his disaster against Atlanta (two innings, six earned runs), but wasn’t able to get enough run support to factor in the decision. The right-hander scattered five hits and two walks while fanning five. One of the runs was a homer by the red-hot Royce Lewis, and the other a double off the bat of Kyle Farmer. Littell has mostly been solid as a starting option, and he’s scheduled to work again next week against the Mariners. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:28 pm

  • Set for another rehab start
Gray (elbow) will make another rehab start for Triple-A Rochester next week, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Gray was able to build up to 79 pitches over five innings during his latest rehab outing Wednesday, and the goal will be for him to get up to six innings or roughly 90 pitches. It's likely he makes his next minor-league start Tuesday, which could put him in line to return to Washington's rotation June 30 against the Rays. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:05 pm

  • Kyle Gibson (back) will throw on Thursday
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said Kyle Gibson “will play catch today” and then check in with the trainers to “determine whether he’ll be available today.”

Advice: While anything is possible, it seems likely that Gibson will not be available today, which would mean that he’s in line to start on Tuesday against the Braves. He would not be a recommended stream for that one. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:39 pm

  • Logan Allen produces Quality Start against Mariners
Logan Allen gave up three runs in six innings against the Mariners on Thursday while being credited with the victory.

Advice: Allen was far from dominant, as he walked four and struck out only two. He was still able to hold the Seattle offense (mostly) in check, particularly after giving up a two-run homer to Dylan Moore in the first. The 25-year-old’s ERA is inflated by two horrible outings in May, and he’s pitched much better than the 5.23 ERA he currently carries. If the rotation stays the same, Allen will face the Orioles on Thursday. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:39 pm

  • Likely to start Tuesday
Gibson (back) is likely to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against Atlanta, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Gibson was a late scratch from Wednesday's start in Miami due to back tightness. He will play catch Thursday to determine whether he could be available in relief for that game, but that's viewed as unlikely. Instead of just pushing his next start back a couple days, the Cardinals seem content to effectively skip his turn and have him ready to go Tuesday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 12:38 pm

  • Luis Castillo struggles in start vs. Guardians
Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings against the Guardians on Thursday while picking up a loss.

Advice: Castillo allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up two homers in the outing; a solo blast by Will Brennan, and a two-run shot to Andres Gimenez in the fifth. It’s a disappointing outing for the right-hander, and it’s the second time in three outings he’s given up five runs in as many frames. Expect Castillo to bounce back next week against the Rays in Tampa. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:38 pm
  • Goes five innings in rehab start
Gray (elbow) struck out five over five innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks in his rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Harrisburg.

Advice: After building up to 79 pitches in what was the third start of his rehab assignment, Gray looks to be on the cusp of making his return from the 15-day injured list. According to Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com, Gray reported back to Washington on Thursday and said he felt good following his latest rehab start, but the Nationals haven't yet decided whether he'll remain on assignment or rejoin the big-league rotation. If Washington chooses to activate Gray along with keeping a five-man rotation intact, the struggling Patrick Corbin could be sent to the bullpen to make room for the right-hander. Gray could be an option to start for the Nationals as soon as Monday in San Diego. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:09 am
