    • Stumbles in second start
Means escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: The southpaw got tagged for two runs in the third and fifth innings, but the Orioles scored in the eighth to tie up the game and take Means off the hook for his first loss before eventually walking it off in the 11th. He tossed 60 of 89 pitches for strikes, and he has a 3.09 ERA and 11:0 K:BB through his first 11.2 innings on the year. Means will look to sharpen things up on his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm

    • Shohei Ohtani leaves game with tightness in back
Shohei Ohtani was removed from Saturday night’s battle against the Padres due to tightness in his back.

Advice: As of now, Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts is calling his level of concern “minimal”, though he acknowledged that Ohtani would likely get a day off on Sunday to err on the side of caution. It doesn’t sound like the superstar slugger should be looking at any sort of extended absence, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:46 pm

    • Nursing back tightness
Ohtani was removed from Saturday's game versus the Padres due to back tightness, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his level of concern regarding the injury is "minimal," but the skipper is leaning toward holding Ohtani out of Sunday's lineup as a precaution. Roberts will wait to see how Ohtani feels Sunday morning before making a final determination. Before exiting Saturday's contest, Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. • John Means allows four over 4 2/3 against D-Backs
John Means allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks while not factoring into the decision.

Advice: Means was outstanding Saturday against the Reds. This outing would best be described as shaky at best. The left-hander gave up six hits, and he struck out three while not issuing a walk. The 31-year-old gave up a two-run homer to Ketel Marte in the third, and two more were charged to him after he exited with one out in the fifth. Means will try and bounce back Friday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:20 pm

    • Joe Musgrove (triceps) plays catch on Friday
Joe Musgrove (triceps) played catch on Friday at Petco Park.

Advice: It’s a positive development for Musgrove that he’s resumed throwing already after landing on the injured list back on May 5 with triceps tendinitis. The 31-year-old righty is likely going to need a couple weeks to ramp up his throwing program, but it doesn’t sound like he’s facing a lengthy absence. Nothing official, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back in June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:17 am

    • Closes out Friday's game
Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Diaz had given up five runs over 1.1 innings across his last two outings, which came in non-save situations. This was his first save since April 27, and he's now 7-for-8 in save chances this season. A couple of implosions have wreaked havoc on Diaz's ratios -- he's at a 6.08 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB through 13.1 innings, and he's been scored upon in four of his 14 appearances. His walk rate is high, but it hasn't cost him the Reds' closer job yet. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:01 pm

    • Díaz picks up seventh save against Giants
Alexis Díaz hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Díaz did allow a walk, but he didn’t give up a hit while striking out two, and lowered his ERA to 6.08 in the process. That ERA is less-than-ideal, but keep in mind that it’s mostly from some early scuffles. Díaz should be a fine closing option for the remainder of 2024. Rotoworld Friday, 9:49 pm

    • Quality start in Coors return
Gray did not factor into the decision Friday against the Rockies, allowing one run on eight hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Gray collected a quality start in his return to Coors Field after departing Colorado in free agency following the 2021 season. The Texas right-hander racked up his third consecutive QS, firing a 1.71 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB in 21 innings over that span. Gray is slated to make his next start at home against Cleveland. • Punches out 11
Crochet (3-4) yielded five hits over six shutout frames Friday while striking out 11 as he earned a win over the Guardians.

Advice: Crochet carved up Cleveland's lineup with ease, setting new career bests with 11 strikeouts and 21 whiffs. He seems to be fully back on track after struggling during the middle of April. He gave up 17 runs over an ugly three-start stretch but has allowed just three runs while registering a 24:1 K:BB over his last three outings. Crochet lowered his season ERA to 4.63 with an outstanding 64:9 K:BB through 46.2 frames. He's currently in line for a home matchup with the Nationals next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:39 pm
