    • Battling stiff back
      Luzardo said that he pitched through a stiff back in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals, Bally Sports Florida reports.

      Advice: The southpaw got the hook after gutting out five innings and 77 pitches, but Luzardo clearly didn't have his best stuff, and his velocity was down about two miles per hour. The Marlins haven't provided any indication that he will miss his next turn in the rotation, which lines up to come Saturday against the Mariners.     • Gets sixth save Sunday
      Jax allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in an 8-7 win over the Athletics in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Jax hadn't logged a save since May 10, but he received the opportunity to do so Sunday after Jhoan Duran closed out the matinee game. While the two relievers initially shared closing duties early in May, Duran has been the Twins' main closer for about a month while Jax has settled into a setup role.       Ober (6-4) allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings to earn the win over the Athletics in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Ober had his start pushed back a day after a rainout Saturday. This was his first quality start since May 12 and the first time he's completed six innings in that span. The right-hander has had a mediocre season so far with a 4.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 73:20 K:BB over 73 innings through 14 starts.     • Griffin Jax closes out Athletics in nightcap
      Griffin Jax picked up his sixth save of the season on Sunday night, working a scoreless ninth inning against the Athletics to preserve a one-run advantage.

      Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander got the call after Jhoan Duran closed out the first game of the doubleheader earlier in the afternoon. He did allow a one-out single to JJ Bleday that put the tying run on base, but battled back to get Miguel Andujar on a fly ball to center field and Tyler Soderstrom on strikes to end it. Jax has been a key cog in the Twins’ bullpen this season, posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and a 43/8 K/BB ratio (31 1/3 innings) while recording six saves and three victories.     • Ober allows one run in win over Athletics Sunday
      Bailey Ober allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and got the win in the Twins’ 6-2 victory over the Athletics on Sunday.



      Advice: Ober gave up six hits, walked two and struck out eight. The win was his sixth of the year. The lone run off of Ober came on a Daz Cameron home run in the seventh inning. Home runs have been a problem for him this season. Ober has allowed 1.48 HR/9, which has been a contributing factor as to why his ERA is 4.81 despite a 4.04 xFIP. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Athletics on the road next week.

    • Fans two in defeat
      Luzardo (3-6) took the loss Sunday against Washington, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings pitched.

      Advice: The two runs charged to Luzardo were both solo home runs -- a first-inning shot by Lane Thomas followed by a fifth-inning blast courtesy of Jacob Young. While he yielded only two earned runs, Luzardo allowed baserunners in all five innings and mustered just two strikeouts. The hard-throwing southpaw has seen a steep drop-off in his strikeout rate compared to last year, his numbers plummeting from 10.48 K/9 to 7.83 K/9 this season. Overall, Luzardo has compiled a disappointing 5.00 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 58:22 K:BB across 66.2 innings.       Jesus Luzardo allowed two runs in five innings and took the loss against the Nationals on Sunday



      Advice: Luzardo gave up five hits, walked three and struck out two. He had allowed just two home runs in his previous seven starts combined, but two of the five hits he gave up on Sunday were home runs. Luzardo has now allowed nine home runs on the season (1.22 HR/9). He has a 5.00 ERA on the season, but his xFIP is significantly lower at 4.09. Luzardo’s been a little unlucky with a 66 percent left on base percentage, though his 21 percent strikeout percentage is down from 28 percent last year. The 26-year-old left-hander is set to face the Mariners at home next week.

      The Astros transferred Javier (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The move was merely a procedural one to free up a 40-man spot. Javier underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this month and will miss extended time, including perhaps all of the 2025 season.
