• TJ Friedl diagnosed with left thumb contusion
The Reds announced that TJ Friedl was diagnosed with a left thumb contusion after being hit by a pitch during Sunday’s game against the Giants.

Advice: Fortunately, X-rays came back negative on Friedl’s thumb after he was pulled from Sunday’s game. That wasn’t before he swiped a base and scored a run in the top half of the first inning though. He may wind up missing a game or two due to pain and swelling, but it sounds like Friedl should be able to avoid a return trip to the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 3:51 pm

  • Hunter Renfroe plates two as Royals top Angels
Hunter Renfroe went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday afternoon, leading the Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Angels.

Advice: Renfroe opened things up with a two-run single off of Patrick Sandoval in the fourth inning that extended the Royals’ lead to 3-0 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Even with his two knocks on the afternoon, the 32-year-old slugger is still hitting a woeful .153/.223/.261 with only three homers and 15 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Today, 3:48 pm

  • Willie Calhoun goes deep in loss to Royals
Willie Calhoun went 3-for-4 and clubbed his first home run of the 2024 season on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Angels past the visiting Royals.

Advice: The 29-year-old outfielder tagged Royals’ closer James McArthur for his 391-foot (101.0 mph EV) solo shot in the ninth inning, pulling the Halos to within two runs at 4-2. That would be as close as they would get. Calhoun also doubled in the Angels’ first run in the sixth inning and singled in the ballgame. With his three-hit attack, he’s now hitting .333/.361/.606 with a homer and three RBI through his first 36 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 3:48 pm

  • Jackson Chourio goes 0-for-2 in return to lineup
After sitting out four straight games, Jackson Chourio went 0-for-2 with a walk in his return to the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Chourio had a nicely hit liner, but it was caught by Brandon Crawford at short. The Brewers could have sent Chourio down last week, but they thought the break to work on things was a better idea. One imagines he’ll have to turn things around over the next 7-10 days in order to avoid a stint in Triple-A. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm

  • Jung Hoo Lee leaves game with shoulder strain
Jung Hoo Lee was removed from Sunday’s game against the Reds with a left shoulder strain after colliding with the center field wall.

Advice: Lee had just returned to the Giants’ lineup on Sunday after missing the previous three games due to a sore foot. He’ll head for further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and how much time he may miss. The Giants are already down Michael Conforto (hamstring) and Jorge Soler (shoulder) in their outfield, so an extended absence for Lee would be a major blow to an already depleted offense. • Corbin Carroll has two hits against Orioles
Corbin Carroll went 2-for-5 with a double in a 9-2 win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: The effort put Carroll over the Mendoza Line on the season, as the 23-year-old is now hitting .201/.287/.266. Perhaps more encouraging, both of Carroll’s hits left the bat at over 100 mph. There are still real concerns about his ability to lift and drive the ball, and his home run projections all feel a bit high, but it’s nice to see him making authoritative contact. • Jake McCarthy homers in win over Orioles
Jake McCarthy went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: McCarthy’s homer was well-hit, leaving the bat at 105 mph for his first of the season. The 26-year-old is now slashing .292/.366/.402 on the year. After starting the year as a reserve, McCarthy has moved into the starting lineup thanks to an injury to Alek Thomas and with Thomas suffering a setback during his rehab, McCarthy could have a couple more weeks of every day playing time. • Mauricio Dubón collects four hits in victory
Mauricio Dubón finished 4-for-5 with an RBI against the Tigers on Sunday.

Advice: Dubón pushed his average back up to .303 while filling in for Jose Altuve today. That comes with just a .330 OBP and a .416 slugging, but, obviously, when he’s hitting .300, he’s a fine player. The Astros will keep squeezing him into the lineup, probably at the expense of Jake Meyers and Joey Loperfido. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

  • Jake Meyers collects three hits off bench
Jake Meyers went 3-for-3 with three RBI off the bench Sunday against the Tigers.

Advice: It was really odd how the Astros made an issue of naming Meyers their starting center fielder this spring, only to change course a week into the season. Hs numbers have been at least adequate throughout and are now actually quite good; he’s hitting .267/.321/.480 in 82 plate appearances. He has the fourth-highest OPS and 10th-most plate appearances on the team. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm
