    • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago

    • Shota Imanaga gets quality start against Giants
Shota Imanaga allowed three runs in six innings of work in a no-decision against the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Imanaga allowed five hits while walking two and fanning three. It’s a marked improvement over his struggled against the Mets on Friday where he allowed 10 runs on 3 1/3 innings, but far from the excellence that we saw from the southpaw earlier in the year. It’s worth noting he did throw fie scoreless in this one, however, before a three-spot came across in the sixth. He still picks up a quality start while possessing a strong — if climbing — 3.07 ERA. Expect more good than bad from Imanaga in the second half of 2024. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago

    • Jake Bloss (shoulder) resumes throwing
Jake Bloss (shoulder) has resumed throwing.

Advice: Bloss was placed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation, but a subsequent MRI revealed no structural damage, and he’s targeting a return to Houston’s injury-depleted pitching mix when first eligible to return. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Kyle Tucker (shin) progresses to hitting again
Kyle Tucker (shin) progressed to taking 30 swings off a batting tee earlier this week.

Advice: Tucker is close to resuming running again after landing on the injured list earlier this month with a right shin contusion. It’s a positive sign that he’s progressed to taking some swings again. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but he’s definitely going to need at least a brief minor league rehab assignment before rejoining Houston’s lineup. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

    • Manuel Margot drives in pair in blowout victory
Manuel Margot went 2-for-5 with two RBI in a victory over the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: He also scored twice in a game where Minnesota crossed the plate 13 times. Margot picked up his RBI with an infield single in the second and a sacrifice fly an inning later. The 29-year-old has been hitting at the top of the lineup against southpaws as of late, but his .238/.307/.325 slash shows he hasn’t really taken advantage of that slot. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
    • Ketel Marte doubles and homers in loss to Twins
Ketel Marte homered and doubled in a blowout loss Thursday to the Twins.

Advice: Marte now has 17 homers on the season to go with 17 doubles. It’s been a fantastic season for the 30-year-old even in a shaky — to put it nicely — season for the Diamondbacks with those numbers along with 47 RBI and an .863 OPS. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

    • Byron Buxton blasts bomb in blowout
Byron Buxton hit a three-run homer while going 3-for-4 in a 13-6 rout of the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Advice: Buxton also scored three runs. The three-run blast came off Scott McGough and gave Minnesota a 11-0 lead and it travelled 456 feet. The outfielder is starting to pick things up offensively, and he’s picked up three hits in two of his last three games while improving his slash to .261/.311/.449. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
    • Jordan Montgomery roughed up in loss to Twins
Jordan Montgomery allowed eight runs — four earned — in just 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Obviously the defense didn’t help Montgomery, but don’t confuse unearned runs with effectiveness. The southpaw gave up nine hits while only picking up a single strikeout with one walk as well. The 2024 season has been a massive disappointment for Montgomery and those who roster him on their fantasy rosters, and even with four unearned runs, this effort pushed his ERA to an ugly 6.03. Things don’t get any easier with the Dodgers scheduled next week. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
    • Oliver Ortega undergoes season-ending surgery
Oliver Ortega underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Advice: Ortega underwent elbow surgery back in late March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow and underwent an additional procedure earlier this week that will end his season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last October from the Twins and has yet to pitch for the Astros. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago
