    • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

    • Shota Imanaga gets quality start against Giants
Shota Imanaga allowed three runs in six innings of work in a no-decision against the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Imanaga allowed five hits while walking two and fanning three. It’s a marked improvement over his struggled against the Mets on Friday where he allowed 10 runs on 3 1/3 innings, but far from the excellence that we saw from the southpaw earlier in the year. It’s worth noting he did throw fie scoreless in this one, however, before a three-spot came across in the sixth. He still picks up a quality start while possessing a strong — if climbing — 3.07 ERA. Expect more good than bad from Imanaga in the second half of 2024. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

    • Jake Bloss (shoulder) resumes throwing
Jake Bloss (shoulder) has resumed throwing.

Advice: Bloss was placed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation, but a subsequent MRI revealed no structural damage, and he’s targeting a return to Houston’s injury-depleted pitching mix when first eligible to return. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

    • Jordan Montgomery roughed up in loss to Twins
Jordan Montgomery allowed eight runs — four earned — in just 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Obviously the defense didn’t help Montgomery, but don’t confuse unearned runs with effectiveness. The southpaw gave up nine hits while only picking up a single strikeout with one walk as well. The 2024 season has been a massive disappointment for Montgomery and those who roster him on their fantasy rosters, and even with four unearned runs, this effort pushed his ERA to an ugly 6.03. Things don’t get any easier with the Dodgers scheduled next week. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
    • Oliver Ortega undergoes season-ending surgery
Oliver Ortega underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Advice: Ortega underwent elbow surgery back in late March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow and underwent an additional procedure earlier this week that will end his season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last October from the Twins and has yet to pitch for the Astros. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago

    • Sent back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Montero was recalled from the minors to serve as a bulk reliever for Wednesday's game, during which he allowed five earned runs in just 4.1 innings. He'll now head back to Toledo in order to free up a roster spot for Alex Faedo (hip), who returned from the IL on Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 4:05 pm
    • Returns from injured list
The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 4:00 pm

    • Tigers activate Alex Faedo for Thursday return
Tigers activated RHP Alex Faedo from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Faedo returns to Detroit’s pitching mix, most likely in a long relief role, following a three-week absence due to right hip inflammation. The 28-year-old former top prospect has excelled in a bullpen role this season with a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (21 appearances). Rotoworld Today, 3:36 pm
