    • James McArthur gives up four runs in blowing save
      James McArthur gave up four runs without retiring a batter in the eighth to take a blown save Friday against the Padres.

      Advice: Josh Schreiber, McArthur and Will Klein combined to give up nine runs in the eighth after the Royals entered the inning with a 3-2 lead. The good news for McArthur was that Schreiber, the Royals’ best alternative in the closer’s role, was pretty much equally ineffective tonight. Schrieber still has a big ERA lead on McArthur (3.00 to 5.32) and McArthur is up to four blown saves, so a change might be considered. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

      The Dodgers reinstated Phillips (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: Phillips was forced onto the injured list May 5 after suffering a right hamstring strain. He's since thrown 1.2 innings of shutout ball while striking out three batters and walking none during a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The 29-year-old right-hander should immediately retain his spot as the Dodgers' closer -- a role he thrived in prior to getting injured, giving up just one earned run in 13.2 frames while collecting eight saves.     • Dodgers activate Evan Phillips from 15-day IL
      Dodgers activated RHP Evan Phillips from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: The 29-year-old closer finally returns to the Dodgers’ bullpen after landing on the injured list with a hamstring strain. While Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen did a nice job in his absence, expect Phillips to jump right into the team’s ninth-inning role. On the season, he holds a minuscule 0.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 17/4 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings of work while recording eight saves. Rotoworld Today, 3:57 pm
       
    • Alexis Díaz nearly blows save versus Cubs
      Alexis Díaz escaped with his 11th save after giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Díaz got lucky when a pitch that hit both Nick Madigal’s hand and the knob of his bat was ruled a foul ball and was then fortunate again when Madrigal, as the tying run, was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Seiya Suzuki’s double. Díaz has a 5.91 ERA this season. He’s walked 15 and hit three batters in 21 1/3 innings. He’s simply not worthy of trust right now, but since he’s blown only two saves and the Reds don’t have anyone else they’re really wanting to turn to, he’ll probably remain in the closer’s role for now.     • Héctor Neris allows run in ninth
      Brought in with the Cubs down one in the top of the ninth, Héctor Neris gave up a run and two hits Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: It’s the second straight outing in which Neris has allowed a run, and it proved to be a pretty big run after the Cubs scored once in the bottom of the ninth. Neris’s peripherals are still awful — he has a 16/15 K/BB in 20 innings — but so far, his only two blown saves haven’t cost the Cubs (the team won both games). He’ll probably need a costly blown save before the Cubs turn things over to Mark Leiter Jr. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

      Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings. Diaz's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.91 with a 1.55 WHP and 22:15 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. He's converted 11 of 13 save chances overall. Rotowire.com Today, 2:40 pm

      Helsley earned the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Reds, allowing a run on a hit and two walks in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Protecting a three-run lead in the ninth, Helsley allowed the first two batters to reach. He'd allow a run on a Tyler Stephenson sacrifice fly before ultimately getting Elly De La Cruz to ground out with the tying runs on base. Helsley has now converted 18 straight save chances despite allowing at least one run in his last three appearances.       Ryan Helsley notched his 18th save after giving up a run in the ninth Wednesday against the Reds.

      Advice: Helsley has bent but not broke these last three appearances, giving up a total of four ninth-inning runs while still converting the save opportunity each time. His ERA has doubled from 1.23 to 2.52, but he’s 18-for-19 on the year. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:40 pm

      Neris (5-0) picked up the win after blowing the save Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and a walk across one inning. He didn't generate a strikeout.

      Advice: Neris entered the game in the ninth with a 1-0 advantage and got Brice Turang and William Contreras to ground out to start the inning. However, Neris walked Christian Yelich and moved Yelich to second on a balk, setting up a game-tying RBI base hit for Willy Adames. Despite failing to come away with the save, Neris ended up with the victory after Chicago put up five runs in the 10th inning. On the year, Neris owns a 2.84 ERA across 19.0 innings and is 6-for-8 on save chances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:22 am
