    • Chas McCormick ready for rehab assignment
Chas McCormick (hamstring) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend.

Advice: McCormick, 29, has been sidelined since April 28 due to a right hamstring strain. He has been running and hitting without any issue though and should only need a couple of games there before he’s ready to return to the Astros’ lineup. Expect him back at the start of next week if everything goes according to plan. Rotoworld Today, 3:23 pm
    • Rehab stint on tap
Manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that McCormick (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: The 29-year-old landed on the injured list with hamstring soreness last week, and he is now on the cusp of returning to game action. McCormick will likely only need a few games in the minors to get back up to speed due to the brevity of the absence, though he could use a few extra at-bats given his .603 OPS through 21 games. • Falls to Toronto
Nola (4-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Nola held Toronto to one run through his first five innings before he started to unravel in the sixth, allowing hits to three of the first four batters in the frame as he was ultimately charged with three more runs. It's the first loss since for Nola since his first start of the year on March 30. His ERA now sits at 3.72 with a 1.20 WHIP and 47:15 K:BB across eight outings (49 innings) this season. Nola will look to get back in the win column in his next start, currently slated for early next week against the Mets. Rotowire.com Today, 2:11 pm

    • Aaron Nola tagged for four runs in defeat
Aaron Nola allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: It was one run through five, but Nola gave up three singles and a double to produce three runs in the sixth, spoiling a nice day. Nola wound up with seven strikeouts and no walks. He’s totaled 37 strikeouts in his last five starts after recording just 10 in his first three outings. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

    • Out 4-to-6 weeks
Reds manager David Bell said that Encarnacion-Strand, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after tests revealed a new fracture in his right wrist, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Initial imaging after Encarnacion-Strand was hit on the hand by a pitch late last month came back clean, but subsequent tests revealed a right ulnar styloid fracture. The 24-year-old has hit a disappointing .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games for the Reds this season. Cincinnati will turn to Jeimer Candelario to replace Encarnacion-Strand at first base in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, while Santiago Espinal enters the lineup at first base. The Reds signed Mike Ford to a one-year contract Wednesday and could also turn to him for starts at first base while Encarnacion-Strand is on the shelf. Rotowire.com Today, 1:10 pm
    • Mets-Cardinals game postponed
Gray and the Cardinals won't play the Mets on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The game will be made up on Aug. 5, which had been a mutual off day for the two clubs. As a result of the postponement, Gray is expected to be pushed back one day in the pitching schedule to start Thursday in Milwaukee. Rotowire.com Today, 12:55 pm

    • On base thrice in Tuesday's win
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances, after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought. • Reds place Christian Encarnacion-Strand on IL
Reds placed Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list with a right ulnar styloid fracture.

Advice: CES took a pitch off his wrist a couple weeks ago and the initial X-Rays came back negative, but now the team is saying there is a fracture which will sideline him forthe next six to eight weeks. Santiago Espinal is likely to take over duties at the hot corner full time until the 24-year-old can return to the Cincinnati’s lineup. Rotoworld Today, 11:54 am
