• Marco Luciano makes first start in five days
Marco Luciano is playing shortstop and batting second Wednesday in his first start in five games.

Advice: In spite of a .391 average in 26 plate appearances, Luciano had taken a seat in favor of Brett Wisely in recent days, all because of his problems on defense. He might head back to the minors once Nick Ahmed comes off the IL. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:32 am

  • Knocks three hits
Freeman went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Freeman led the game off with a double and scored the first run. He later knocked an RBI single in the second inning and added another double in the ninth. It was his first multi-hit game since going 4-for-4 on May 18. Freeman boosted his slash line to .228/.324/.370 with 15 extra-base hits and 31 runs scored through 189 plate appearances. • Tyler Freeman goes 3-for-5, doubles twice
Tyler Freeman went 3-for-5 and doubled twice as the Guardians’ leadoff man Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: Freeman won’t be spending much time in the leadoff spot after Steven Kwan comes off the IL, but he looks like a lineup fixture right now. His .228/.324/.370 line makes him a league-average hitter, which is kind of sad but also definite progress from the 25-year-old. Rotoworld Monday, 5:15 pm

  • Will take BP soon
Ahmed (wrist) is slated to take batting practice in the coming days, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Ahmed has been sidelined since early may with a left wrist sprain but is almost ready to face live pitching. It's not clear whether the Giants will ask Ahmed to go out on a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list. Marco Luciano and Brett Wisely have been filling in at shortstop while Ahmed is on the shelf. Rotowire.com Monday, 12:02 pm

  • Marco Luciano continues to sit for Giants
Marco Luciano is on the bench on Monday for the Giants, with Brett Wisely starting against the Phillies.

Advice: Wisely is a left-handed hitter so it makes sense he would start with a right-handed hitter on the mound, but this is now the third straight time Luciano is on the bench, including on Sunday against a left-handed pitcher. It seems like Wisely may have taken the starting role from Luciano, who certainly didn’t do anything to lose it, slashing .391/.462/.565 in his first 26 plate appearances since being recalled on May 14th. • Adds steal Sunday
Freeman went 1-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, one RBI and one stolen base in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Freeman is still hitting just .217 on the year, but he's made big strides by batting .302 (13-for-43) over his last 12 contests. He's hit leadoff during that entire span, though his time atop the order will likely end when Steven Kwan (hamstring) returns. Freeman has added a .667 OPS, seven steals, four home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored across 184 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:17 am

  • Steals two in win
Hamilton started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with two steals in Sunday's 2-1 win over Milwaukee.

Advice: Hamilton has hit well since the middle of the month, going 10-for-30 with five extra-base hits and three steals over the last 10 games. As long as the bat holds up, there should be avenues to playing time for him; if not at shortstop, then second base where Vaughn Grissom has not taken hold of an everyday job. • Climbs above .200 again
Rafaela went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Rafaela's eighth-inning double put him in position to score the winning run. He has multiple hits in two straight games and has gone 7-for-22 (.318) over the last six. That's pushed his batting average to .208, the third time he's climbed above the Mendoza Line this season. Rafaela is a bit of conundrum. He leads the Red Sox in RBI (28) and is fifth in extra-base hits (16), but he's not exactly a good hitter. Boston manager Alex Cora told Alex Speier of The Boston Globe that Rafaela has "big moves" in his swing as he tries to hit for power -- how he loads the swing, the leg kick and the swing itself. For long-term success, Cora believes Rafaela needs to shorten his swing. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:45 am

  • Logs steal Sunday
Mateo went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Mateo has racked up five steals while going 6-for-23 (.261) over his last eight games. The infielder is up to 10 thefts on the year, putting him roughly on pace to challenge for a third straight 30-steal campaign. He's slashing .247/.302/.464 with three home runs, nine RBI, 18 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple over 108 plate appearances, though he's seen a starting role at second base for most of May.
