      The Marlins reinstated Garrett (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

      Advice: Garrett isn't expected to make his season debut for the big club until Sunday versus Philadelphia, but he'll rejoin the Marlins a few days early after fellow starter Edward Cabrera (shoulder) was placed on the IL in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old southpaw opened the season on the shelf due to a left shoulder impingement and made two rehab starts before a brief shutdown period while he contended with a dead-arm phase. Garrett has bounced back well since resuming his rehab assignment April 26, compiling a 1.32 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings across three outings between Triple-A Jacksonville and the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.       Berrios (4-3) took the loss Tuesday against Philadelphia, surrendering eight earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven batters across 3.2 innings.

      Advice: Berrios had trouble locating the strike zone Tuesday and often found himself working with a lot of traffic on the basepaths, which were twice cleared by home runs. He was able to strike out batters at a notable rate, matching his season high in roughly half the innings, but he was immediately pulled after Bryce Harper's fourth-inning grand slam made it an 8-0 game. Despite Berrios' ugly performance Tuesday, he still holds a 2.85 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through his first eight starts, and he'll get a chance to bounce back against the Orioles on Sunday.     • Marlins activate Braxton Garrett from 15-day IL
      Marlins activated LHP Braxton Garrett (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: Garrett finished up his rehab with an outing in the Florida Complex League where he stuck out 13 batters across 5 2/3 innings. Even though that was against low-level competition, it looks like Garrett is ready to go to get back in the mix for the Marlins and make his season debut in the coming days.       Turnbull threw two innings of relief Tuesday against the Blue Jays, walking one but allowing no hits or runs.

      Advice: Turnbull was expected to pitch in some sort of piggyback setup with Cristopher Sanchez, but Tuesday's game didn't entirely fit that pattern. Sanchez threw seven innings of one-run ball before turning it over to Turnbull in the eighth with the Phillies up 8-1. Turnbull's outing therefore wound up looking much more like traditional low-leverage relief work than a proper piggybacking arrangement. It's not yet clear whether Turnbull will be used as a typical reliever for the foreseeable future or if the Phillies will keep him lined up with Sanchez's starts. Rotowire.com Today, 9:31 am
       
    • Gets bailed out by offense
      Maeda allowed seven runs on five hits across only two innings of work but did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Guardians. He walked three and struck out one.

      Advice: Maeda wasn't very good in this one, but he escaped his second loss of the season thanks to a ton of run support. The veteran righty is now sitting with a subpar 6.75 ERA across his first seven starts with the Tigers, though he had only allowed one run over 11 innings in his previous two appearances coming into Tuesday, so there were some signs he was turning things around before this dud. Home runs have been a problem, as the 36-year-old has now allowed nine of them in 30.2 innings.     • José Berríos coughs up 8 runs in loss to Phillies
      José Berríos allowed eight runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

      Advice: Berríos was able to strike out seven on the day, compared to just two walks, and he allowed just three hard-hit balls all day. However, that led to four extra-base hits and two home runs, so the Phillies made the most of their contact. Berríos was able to post a solid 27 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW on the day and allowed an average exit velocity of 90.4 mph, but he put himself in tough spots by throwing just 42 percent of his pitches in the strike zone. All in all, it feels like more of an off night for Berríos than the sign of any major regression. He now has a 2.85 ERA on the season and will get another tough test against the Orioles next week.     • Maeda hammered again versus Guardians on Tuesday
      Kenta Maeda blew up again on Tuesday allowing seven earned runs in two innings, taking the no-decision in the Tigers’ 11-7 victory over the Guardians.



      Advice: Tigers manager A.J. Hinch had seen enough of Maeda in this one after the second inning. This marks the third time in seven starts that Maeda has allowed at least six runs this season. Maeda’s ERA ballooned to 6.75 on the season after this performance. The 36-year-old right-hander is set to face the Marlins at home next week, but is best left safely on the bench.

    • Bryan Bello returning Sunday against Nationals
      Bryan Bello (lat) struck out five over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Portland.

      Advice: Bello told reporters following the 52-pitch rehab outing that he’ll start on Sunday against the Nationals at Fenway Park instead of making any additional rehab tune-ups.       Advice: Bello made a rehab appearance Tuesday at Double-A Portland, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters across 2.2 innings. Despite his unremarkable performance, the right-hander said he came away from the start without any pain and is ready to return to Boston's rotation.
