    • Christopher Morel continues power surge vs. Brewers
Christopher Morel went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk on Saturday against the Brewers.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the first inning, Morel took Tobias Myers deep for a two-run homer in the third to extend the Cubs lead. Morel can certainly hit homers in bunches, as he’s now gone yard in three straight games and four of his last six. The 24-year-old third baseman is slashing .213/.292/.426 with seven homers, 20 runs scored, 20 RBI, and three steals across 137 plate appearances. Despite the low batting average, Morel has significantly cut down his strikeout rate so far this season, a good sign that we can see his numbers improve as we get into the summer. • Inching closer to rehab assignment
Suzuki (oblique) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday alongside Cody Bellinger (ribs), Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Suzuki suffered a right oblique strain April 14. He was first limited to light activity in his rehab, but Suzuki has since progressed to on-field batting practice. After his batting session Wednesday, Suzuki noted that he felt he was 80 percent recovered from his oblique strain and could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues to progress, per Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune. • Increasing baseball activities
Bellinger (ribs) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Bellinger landed on the injured list April 24 after fracturing his right rib against the Astros the day prior. It's a good sign that the 2019 NL MVP is taking the first steps in his rehab, and Cubs manager Craig Counsell suggested that Bellinger could return to the club next week, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com. In Bellinger's absence, Pete Crow-Armstrong has served as the primary starter in center field and is slashing .259/.250/.444 with one home run and seven RBI over 29 plate appearances this season. • Bellinger, Suzuki participating in drills Saturday
Cody Bellinger (rib) and Seiya Suzuki (oblique) are hitting and participating in defensive drills Saturday.

Advice: Bellinger and Suzuki are key cogs of the Chicago offense, and both are working their way before from significant injuries. Both will need rehab assignments before they can return to the lineup, but it does appear both Suzuki and Bellinger could be back with the club before the end of May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:29 am

    • Homers again Friday
Morel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Morel snapped a scoreless tie with two outs in the sixth inning, launching a solo shot to centerfield off Joe Ross to put the Cubs ahead 1-0. Morel now has homers in back-to-back games and three in his last five contests following a span of 16 games without a long ball. The 24-year-old third baseman is slashing .210/.286/.403 through 133 plate appearances this year with six homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:27 pm

    • Progresses to batting practice
Suzuki (oblique) took on-field batting practice Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune report.

Advice: It's the first time he's taken BP since he suffered a right oblique strain April 14. Suzuki estimated that he's 80 percent recovered from the injury, and he could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues trending in the right direction. A return to the Cubs' active roster by mid-May looks doable for the outfielder. Rotowire.com Friday, 6:14 am

    • Christopher Morel swats three-run homer in loss
Christopher Morel connected on a three-run homer Thursday in an extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: Morel extended the Cubs’ lead to 4-0 in the fifth with a three-run blast off Adrian Houser. The second-year infielder has gone deep five times, and he’s now up to 17 RBI over Chicago’s 32 games. It’s nice to see some offensive success again, as Morel has scuffled as of late to drop his line to .209/.287/.383. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:11 pm

    • Kyle Tucker slugs eighth homer in loss to Guardians
Kyle Tucker went 1-for-4 with a solo homer on Wednesday against the Guardians.

Advice: Trailing by one run, Tucker led off the seventh inning with the game-tying homer off of Triston McKenzie. The 27-year-old star has gone deep in three of his last four games, giving him eight homers while slashing .298/.407/.570 with 21 runs scored, 21 RBI, and five steals across 136 plate appearances. • Tauchman has two hits in loss to Mets
Mike Tauchman went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Mets.

Advice: Tauchman had the Cubs’ only extra-base hit of the night and is now slashing .307/.435/.530 on the season. Perhaps more importantly, he was in the lineup and hitting sixth with a left-handed pitcher on the mound, which suggests that he’ll be an everyday player for the Cubs while Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki are sidelined. That makes him worth a short-term add in most formats. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:28 pm
