    • Escapes with sixth save
Neris allowed one run on two hits and one walk but recorded the final three outs of Saturday's game against the Brewers to earn his sixth save of the season. He struck out one batter.

Advice: Neris put the tying run in scoring position with just one out, but he then buckled down and retired Tyler Black and Willy Adames to preserve the win for starter Jameson Taillon. With six saves in as many attempts since April 20, and with Adbert Alzolay struggling to get on track in lower-leverage situations, Neris appears to be shoring up his spot in the ninth inning under manager Craig Counsell. • Beats Brewers for third win
Taillon (3-0) earned the win over the Brewers on Saturday, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: The bullpen allowed Milwaukee back into the game with five runs, though Hector Neris ultimately shut the door to preserve the win. Taillon's seven strikeouts Saturday set a new season high after he'd previously topped out at four Ks in an outing. Since returning from a back injury, Taillon has allowed just three earned runs with a 16:5 K:BB over 24 innings. Regression will come at some point, but Taillon will have a great chance to keep the good times rolling next weekend in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:27 pm
    • Héctor Neris records sixth save against Brewers
Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning, holding on for the save against the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: It hasn’t come easy for Neris, but he just keeps getting by in the ninth inning. He was summoned with a two-run lead against the Brewers and gave up a run on two hits and a walk before closing it out for his sixth save. Mark Letter Jr. tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before handing it over to Neris. He’ll be someone to watch if Neris struggles to convert saves going forward. • Jameson Taillon tosses six shutout for third win
Jameson Taillon tossed six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a win over the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: Taillon continued his excellent start to the season on Saturday, shutting down the Brewers over six innings. He scattered two hits and two walks, striking out a season-high seven batters. The 32-year-old right-hander has now allowed just three runs over 24 innings for a 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and a 16/5 K/BB ratio. He’ll take on the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday. • Jordan Wicks (forearm) playing long toss Saturday
Jordan Wicks (forearm) is playing long toss before Saturday’s game versus the Brewers.

Advice: Wicks was placed on the injured list Sunday with a forearm strain. The fact he’s throwing is obviously a positive development, but he’ll need to get in a few bullpen sessions — and possibly a rehab start — before he’s ready to roll again. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:31 am

    • Implodes in Friday's loss
Alzolay (1-4) allowed three runs on four hits while retiring just a single batter to take the loss Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: Alzolay came on with one out in the eighth inning and promptly got into trouble, allowing a couple of quick singles before recording an out. The Brewers also ran freely on Alzolay, stealing three bases while he was on the mound. It's been a rough start to the season for the righty, as he's saddled with a 5.54 ERA and has been removed from the closer's role in favor of Hector Neris. Alzolay doesn't have a ton of fantasy appeal in his current form. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:04 am
    • Adbert Alzolay gives up three runs to take loss
After coming in with a 1-0 lead in the eighth, Adbert Alzolay gave up three runs on four hits to take a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: All four hits were singles, and three of them were soft, coming in at 80 mph or less. Two were grounders perfectly placed in between Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner up the middle. To be fair, Alzolay was missing his spots, and he hurt his cause by paying no attention to the baserunners and giving up three steals. Obviously, this won’t help his chances of seeing saves again anytime soon. Still, this isn’t how he usually struggles when he’s ineffective; he hadn’t allowed more than two hits in an appearance since last Sept. 1. Rotoworld Friday, 2:02 pm
    • Slated for another rehab start
Craig Counsell said Friday that Hendricks (back) will start for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday as he continues his rehab assignment, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Hendricks allowed two runs while striking out seven over five innings with Double-A Tennessee on Thursday, with Counsell referring to the outing as "encouraging." However, given how badly Hendricks struggled with the big club before his back injury, the Cubs will give him another tune-up start at a higher level before considering a return to the major-league rotation. • On track to return Monday
Steele (hamstring) will start Monday against the Padres as long as he gets through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The results of Steele's lone rehab start weren't great -- he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings -- but he feels good and has put his hamstring injury in the rearview mirror, which is the most important thing. Steele threw 63 pitches in his rehab outing Wednesday, so he will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Monday, assuming he is indeed cleared to rejoin the Cubs' rotation that day.
