• Taking full BP in cage
Contreras (forearm) will take full batting practice in the indoor batting cage Thursday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras is barely more than a month removed from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm. He was given a 10-week timetable to return following the operation but would appear to be ahead of schedule, given that he's already taking batting practice. Before being activated from the injured list, Contreras will surely need to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, but it's uncertain when he might be cleared to join one of the Cardinals' affiliates for game action. • On base five times in loss
Perez went 2-for-2 with three walks in Wednesday's 11-5 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Perez walked three times in a game for the first time in his career. The catcher has gone just 6-for-33 (.182) over 10 contests in June, but he's shown rare patience at the plate by drawing eight walks in that span. For the season, he's at a .302/.381/.488 slash line with 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 26 runs scored, 15 doubles and no stolen bases, and his 9.0 percent walk rate is double his previous career high, which was in a 39-game sample as a rookie in 2011. • On bench, but getting bulk of work
Trevino is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Trevino is on the bench for a day game after a night game, but he seems to have usurped Austin Wells as the Yankees' preferred option at catcher. He's started in three of the previous four games -- all against right-handed pitchers -- while going 4-for-10 with a home run and five RBI to bring his OPS up to .737 for the season. Though Wells has picked up the pace at the plate over the past month, his .620 OPS on the campaign still sits more than 100 points behind Trevino's mark. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:47 am
  • Absent from lineup again
Melendez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: For the third time in the last four contests, the Royals' lineup card hasn't included Melendez, who is amidst a 7-for-75 freefall at the dish dating back to May 11. Dairon Blanco will cover left field Thursday while Melendez takes a seat. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:59 am

  • Resting up Thursday
Kelly is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Kelly will take a seat for the day game after he caught all nine innings of Wednesday's 7-5 loss while going hitless in four at-bats. Jake Rogers will get the starting nod behind the plate in the series finale. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:17 am
  • Slugs three-run homer
Trevino went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in an 11-5 win against the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Trevino capped a huge first inning for the Yankees with his three-run blast that made the score 6-0. It was the backstop's first homer since May 18 and ended a stretch of 13 games without any extra-base hits. Trevino has been pretty solid offensively overall this season, though, slashing .272/.321/.416 with six homers, 23 RBI and 17 runs through 138 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:52 pm
  • Belts first homer
Davis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Wednesday in a 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Davis gave Pittsburgh its second run of the contest with a solo shot to center field in the eighth inning. The long ball was his first in what has been a very disappointing season, as he's slashing a meager .157/.273/.241 through 99 plate appearances. With Joey Bart (thumb) on the injured list, Davis has been splitting time behind the plate with veteran Yasmani Grandal. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:09 pm

  • Henry Davis hits first homer versus Cardinals
Henry Davis hit his first homer of the season Wednesday off the Cardinals’ Andrew Kittredge.

Advice: It was his lone hit tonight and second in 15 at-bats since he was recalled from Triple-A last week. He’s now up to 100 plate appearances for the season and has 13 hits, five RBI and 38 strikeouts. Odds are that he’ll return to Triple-A once Joey Bart comes off the IL. • Jose Trevino slugs three-run homer vs. Royals
Jose Trevino went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Trevino broke the game open in the first inning with a three-run blast off Daniel Lynch. He later added a base hit to lead off the sixth. The 31-year-old backstop is slashing a respectable .272/.321/.416 with six homers and 23 RBI across 138 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:03 pm
