• Sitting again Wednesday
Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: After making four consecutive starts behind the plate, Wong finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row. Wong still looks to be the Red Sox's No. 1 catcher, but manager Alex Cora may have wanted to reward backup Reese McGuire with another start after he drew two walks in Tuesday's 4-3 win. • Heading to bench Wednesday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: With solid counting statistics (12 home runs, two stolen bases, 37 RBI and 28 runs) and a non-toxic batting average (.234), Jeffers has been one of the top fantasy catchers this season, but he's started to lose some of his shine in recent weeks. He's slashing just .153/.240/.259 overall since May 15, and his ongoing struggles at the dish have begun to cost him some playing time. He'll give way Wednesday to Christian Vazquez, who remains the Twins' No. 2 catcher but seems to have moved his way into more of a timeshare with Jeffers behind the dish. • Cubs designate Yan Gomes for assignment
Cubs designated C Yan Gomes for assignment.

Advice: He’ll probably catch on somewhere, but Gomes, who was batting .154/.179/.242 in 96 plate appearances, has looked pretty much done at age 36, even though he was still a perfectly fine starter just one year ago. Maybe the Phillies will want him as a steady hand while J.T. Realmuto is out. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:30 am

  • Loses roster spot
The Cubs designated Gomes for assignment Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Chicago has signed Tomas Nido to take Gomes' roster spot and serve as the primary backup to top catcher Miguel Amaya. Gomes, who turns 37 years old in July, has a dreadful .421 OPS and 37.5-percent strikeout rate over 33 games this season. He's making $6 million in 2024, and the Cubs will have to eat the remainder of that salary after Gomes clears waivers. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:58 am

  • Report: Cubs replacing Yan Gomes with Tomás Nido
The Cubs are designating Yan Gomes for assignment and signing Tomás Nido to replace him, according to Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami.

Advice: The end can come quickly sometimes. The usually solid Gomes actually performed a little better than his career norms at age 35 last season, but he’s really slipped both offensively and defensively this year. Nido won’t help with the offense, but he is an excellent defender and he might cut into Miguel Amaya’s playing time some. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:40 am

  • Getting afternoon off
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: He'll take a seat for the afternoon game after making starts at catcher and designated hitter in the first two contests of the series in Pittsburgh. Luke Maile will check in for Stephenson behind the plate Wednesday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:40 am
  • Returns to action
Heim went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Mets.

Advice: Heim returned from a paternity leave Tuesday and was back in the lineup as the catcher. He's batting .235/.278/.341 with six home runs, 31 RBI, one steal and 22 runs scored over 241 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:37 am
  • Ben Rice records first career hit in pro debut
Ben Rice went 1-for-4 with a single in Tuesday’s win over the Orioles.

Advice: Rice hit an opposite-field fly ball to left in his first career at-bat but singled with runners on first and second to record his first career hit. Rice manned first base in place of Anthony Rizzo (hand) in his debut and overcame an early fielding gaffe to turn in a solid first outing as a pro. Rice was slashing .275/.393/.532 with 15 homers and 36 RBI in the minors this season. He’ll have ample opportunities to contribute to the Yankees’ lineup, with Rizzo set to miss an extended length of time. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:27 pm
  • William Contreras back in lineup Tuesday vs. Halos
William Contreras is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Angels.

Advice: Contreras is back at designated hitter following a one-game absence for precautionary reasons following a scary-looking home-plate collision over the weekend. The positive development here for the Brewers, and fantasy managers, is that the 26-year-old backstop has been cleared of a potential concussion. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:45 pm
