    • Spencer Arrighetti hit hard in loss to Jays
      Spencer Arrighetti allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits in four innings in a loss to the Blue Jays.

      Advice: He struck out five and walked four on the day while also allowing two home runs. He induced just six whiffs on the day for a 15 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW. The rookie now has a 6.13 ERA on the season and with Luis Garcia continuing to progress on his rehab assignment, there may be only a few more starts left for Arrighetti at the big league level in 2024.     • Michael Mercado earns first career win vs. Cubs
      Michael Mercado allowed two hits and one earned run over five innings to pick up the win on Tuesday against the Cubs.



      Advice: Mercado made his first career start on Tuesday night and was about as good as we could have hoped for. The 25-year-old righty allowed just four baserunners on the evening, with three of those coming in the third inning. The lone run he allowed came on a double by Cody Bellinger, but Mercado did more than enough to limit the Cubs’ bats to pick up his first career win in the big leagues. With Spencer Turnbull on the 15-day IL, Mercado will have a chance to make another start or two. He’s scheduled to toe the rubber again on Sunday against the Braves.     • Eovaldi allows one hit in win over Padres
      Nathan Eovaldi allowed one hit over seven innings while striking out six to earn the win on Tuesday against the Padres.

      Advice: Eovaldi was aided by a two-homer night by Nathaniel Lowe, but the veteran righty didn’t need much help. Eovaldi allowed just one baserunner on the night, which came on a Bryce Johnson single in the top of the third inning. Eovaldi lowered his season ERA to 3.15 in this one and bounced back nicely after allowing five earned runs in his previous outing. Eovaldi is scheduled to make his next start on Sunday against the Rays, where he’ll look to pick up his sixth win. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm
       
    • Cease allows six earned, two homers vs. Rangers
      Dylan Cease allowed eight hits and six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers.

      Advice: Cease had an up-and-down first inning. While he recorded all three of his outs via the strikeout, he allowed two hits, with the second coming on a two-run homer by Nathaniel Lowe to give the Rangers an early lead. It would only get worse from there, as Cease would give up another two-run bomb to Lowe in the third inning and was pulled in the fourth inning shortly after allowing a sixth run off a Marcus Semien single. It’s been a rough stretch for Cease, who has allowed 17 earned runs over his last 19 innings while striking out 29 batters and walking nine. Cease will look to bounce back in his next outing, which is set for Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:32 pm
       
    • Birdsong notches first career win vs. Braves
      Hayden Birdsong allowed two earned runs over five innings while striking out five to pick up his first win on Tuesday over the Braves.

      Advice: Birdsong pitched a scoreless first inning but gave up back-to-back solo shots to Austin Riley and Sean Murphy in the second. Those would be the only runs allowed by Birdsong, who has now allowed five earned runs over his first 9 2/3 innings pitched on the season. The 22-year-old righty hasn’t blown away the competition in his first two career starts, but he’s given his team a chance to win in both outings despite a 1.55 WHIP.     • Reynaldo López goes just 4 2/3 innings vs. Giants
      Reynaldo López allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings while striking out six in Tuesday’s loss to the Giants.

      Advice: López was pulled after 101 pitches, as the veteran righty allowed base runners on the night, with four coming via the walk. López gave up a solo homer to Jorge Soler in the fifth inning and later saw LaMonte Wade Jr. take him deep to tie the game at 2-2 before being pulled after retiring the next batter. López has allowed two earned runs or less in his last six outings but has walked four batters in back-to-back games. He carries a 1.83 ERA into his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm
       
    • Skubal strikes out seven in loss to Twins
      Tarik Skubal allowed three earned runs and four hits over six innings while striking out seven in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

      Advice: Skubal pitched two scoreless innings to start the game but ran into trouble in the third inning. After striking out Willi Castro to start the frame, Skubal allowed back-to-back singles to Kyle Farmer and Manuel Margot before Royce Lewis eventually doubled to bring both runners around to score. He would later give up a solo homer to Margot in the fifth inning but returned to pitch a scoreless sixth before being pulled for Will Vest. Skubal has allowed seven earned runs over his last 17 innings pitched while posting a 21:4 K:BB ratio. The lefty didn’t get saddled with the loss in this one and will look to pick up his 10th win of the season on Sunday against the Reds. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:09 pm

      Simeon Woods Richardson allowed four hits and three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out four in Tuesday’s win over the Tigers.



      Advice: Woods Richardson pitched four scoreless frames to kick off the game before giving up home runs to Justyn-Henry Malloy and Ryan Kreidler in the fifth inning. He would return to pitch part of the sixth inning but was pulled in favor of Jorge Alcala after walking Colt Keith. Woods Richardson has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last three outings and will look to pick up his fourth win of the season on Sunday against the Astros.     • Michal Kopech takes loss against Guardians
      Michael Kopech allowed one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning in a loss to the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: Kopech entered the ninth in a tie game and allowed a lead-off single to Andres Gimenez. Gimenez would later move over on a groundout and then a wild pitch allowed him to advance to third where he was driven in by a sac fly off the bat of Bo Naylor. Kopech had allowed just one run in his last six innings and wasn’t particularly bad here, but the wild pitch highlights some of the inconsistency that he brings at the end of games.
