    • J.P. Crawford likely to be activated Friday
J.P. Crawford is likely to come off the I.L. on Friday after one more rehab game on Wednesday.

Advice: Crawford went 1-for-4 in his first game for Triple-A Tacoma last night. The shortstop is returning from a strained oblique muscle. The Mariners will likely demote Leo Rivas when Crawford is activated. Rotoworld Today, 11:54 am

    • Eyeing weekend return
Mariners manager Scott Servais said Crawford (oblique) will play another rehab game for Triple-A Tacoma before likely returning from the 10-day injured list ahead of this weekend's series in Baltimore, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Crawford, who has been on the shelf since April 25 with a Grade 1 right oblique strain, kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday, going 1-for-4 in Tacoma's 8-5 win over Salt Lake while playing seven innings at shortstop. Assuming Crawford feels fine physically coming out of his second rehab outing, he should be ready to rejoin the big club this weekend and settle back in as the team's everyday shortstop. Dylan Moore will shift back into a utility role once Crawford is back with the team. Rotowire.com Today, 11:51 am

    • J.P. Crawford (oblique) starts rehab assignment
J.P. Crawford (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Crawford was expected to kick off a rehab assignment this week as he works his way back from a right oblique strain. The hope is that he’ll be ready to return to Seattle’s lineup at some point later this week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:48 pm

    • Set for rehab assignment
Crawford (oblique) took part in batting practice Monday and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Advice: Crawford has been on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain since April 25, but he appears to be on the cusp of returning to the big-league roster. He'll likely need to participate in multiple contests during his rehab assignment in Triple-A before being activated and could join the team in Baltimore ahead of its three-game series with the Orioles beginning Friday. • J.P. Crawford to begin rehab assignment
J.P. Crawford is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma this week.

Advice: Crawford has missed three weeks due to an oblique strain, but he’s getting closer to a return. Dylan Moore has been surprisingly good in his place at shortstop, but he’ll go back into a utility role once Crawford is ready. Rotoworld Monday, 3:41 pm

    • Stays hot
Cruz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: Cruz got off to a slow start to the season, though he's managed multiple hits in four of his last five starts. He's hit .500 in that span with two home runs while collecting six RBI and five runs scored. Importantly, Cruz has greatly cut down on his strikeout rate, as he's punched out multiple times in a game only three times in his last 17 starts and struck out at a respectable 23.8 percent clip in that span. • Another encouraging step Friday
Crawford (oblique) put in a full pregame workout before the Mariners' series opener against the Athletics on Friday, making throws on groundballs and taking batting practice on the field, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Not only is the boost in activity level encouraging, but Crawford confirmed after his workout that he's back to full strength. However, the veteran shortstop also conceded he needed to get his timing at the plate back, making it likely he goes on a rehab assignment of no more than two games before potentially being activated. • Another productive performance
Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Angels.

Advice: Cruz provided the majority of Pittsburgh's offense by delivering a double with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. He's had a productive start to Pittsburgh's homestead, collecting six hits in 18 at-bats while also homering twice and driving in seven. Even more important is that he has struck out only four times in that span, a significantly decreased rate from his 34.7 percent clip this season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:43 am

    • Ankle issues not long term
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Cruz's recurring left ankle issues are not believing to be a long-term concern, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz played just nine games before a fractured left ankle ended his 2023 season. The ankle has since bothered him off and on during the 2024 season, including most recently during Monday's game versus the Angels. He's been able to mostly play through it, but you have to wonder whether it could be contributing to Cruz's disappointing .244/.293/.382 batting line. However, at least at this juncture, it does not appear the team is worried about Cruz's ankle problems becoming chronic. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:46 am
