    • Heads to IL with fractured foot
      The Royals placed Wacha on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a non-displaced left foot fracture.

      Advice: X-rays revealed that Wacha suffered structural damage to his foot after he was hit by a 90 mile-per-hour comebacker off the bat of Luis Arraez in the opening inning of Friday's 11-8 loss to the Padres. Despite the fact that he was likely dealing with some pain, Wacha stayed in the game and proceeded to cover 5.1 innings while allowing two runs in a no-decision. The Royals haven't provided a timeline for Wacha's return, but given the nature of his injury, he's likely to miss beyond the minimum 15 days regardless of whether or not he requires surgery.       The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.

      Advice: Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.     • Padres put Yu Darvish on IL with left groin strain
      Padres placed RHP Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.

      Advice: Darvish was originally believed to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but it turns out to be a groin strain that will keep him sidelined for at least a few weeks. The 37-year-old righty lasted just three innings on Wednesday against the Marlins before exiting due to hamstring tightness and holds a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season.     • Spotted in walking boot
      Wacha was wearing a walking boot on his left foot following Friday's loss to the Padres, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports.

      Advice: Wacha took a 90-mph line drive off his left foot during the first at-bat of Friday's contest. He was able to remain in the game and pitch 5.1 innings of two-run ball while logging two strikeouts, but it's obvious his shot to the foot has bothered him. The 32-year-old right-hander said after the game that he will undergo imaging Saturday, at which point he and the Royals will have a better idea as to how severe the damage is.     • Michael Wacha in walking boot after Friday’s start
      Michael Wacha was seen in a walking boot in the Royals’ clubhouse following Friday night’s start against the Padres.

      Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a line drive by the very first batter during Friday’s start. He wound up staying in the game and giving up just two runs over 5 1/3 innings of work, but was sore after the game. The right-hander told reporters after the game that he’ll get some scans done on Saturday to see if any damage was done, but that he’s hoping for good news.     • Alexis Díaz nearly blows save versus Cubs
      Alexis Díaz escaped with his 11th save after giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Díaz got lucky when a pitch that hit both Nick Madigal’s hand and the knob of his bat was ruled a foul ball and was then fortunate again when Madrigal, as the tying run, was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Seiya Suzuki’s double. Díaz has a 5.91 ERA this season. He’s walked 15 and hit three batters in 21 1/3 innings. He’s simply not worthy of trust right now, but since he’s blown only two saves and the Reds don’t have anyone else they’re really wanting to turn to, he’ll probably remain in the closer’s role for now.       Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings. Diaz's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.91 with a 1.55 WHP and 22:15 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. He's converted 11 of 13 save chances overall. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:40 pm

      The Padres are still evaluating Darvish's left hamstring injury and have not ruled out him making his next scheduled start Tuesday versus the Angels, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

      Advice: Darvish had to be lifted from Wednesday's outing against the Marlins after his hamstring tightened up on him. While it's a good sign he hasn't been placed on the 10-day injured list yet, no final determination has been made regarding his status for his next turn or a possible IL stint.       Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters on Friday that Yu Darvish (hamsting) is still being evaluated and that there’s a chance he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

      Advice: The Padres haven’t placed Darvish on the injured list — and may not at all — depending on how he feels over the next couple of days. It sounds like they’ll continue to take things a day at a time with the 37-year-old hurler.
