    • Ryan Helsley locks down 28th save Wednesday
Ryan Helsley tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save in the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves on Wednesday.

Advice: Helsley was summoned to close it out in the ninth with a three-run lead against the Braves. He recorded the first out, then allowed two runners on with a single and a walk. A groundout put both runners in scoring position and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. He Helsley struck out the final batter to end the game with his MLB-leading 28th save. • Matthew Liberatore strikes out eight vs. Braves
Matthew Liberatore tossed six shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a win over the Braves on Wednesday.

Advice: Starting the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, Liberatore was dominant against the Braves, keeping them scoreless over a season-high six innings. He scattered two hits and a walk, striking out a career-high eight batters on 14 swinging strikes. The 24-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 3.86 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 36/16 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings. He’ll likely revert back to a swingman role if he hasn’t earned himself another start in the rotation. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago

    • Craig Kimbrel earns 17th save
Craig Kimbrel struck out the side and walked one batter on Wednesday to nail down the save against the Guardians.

Advice: Kimbrel continues to drink from the fountain of youth. His 17th save to break the Orioles losing streak and he has his highest strikeout rate since 2021. He is locked in as the closer in Baltimore. Rotoworld Today, 6:12 pm

    • Blue Jays and Red Sox suspended due to rain
Wednesday’s game between the Blue Jays and Red Sox in Boston was suspended due to rain.

Advice: There hadn’t been any rain in the forecast, but a storm popped up early in the second inning and washed out any chances of the two sides getting this game in. The game will resume on August 26 in the top half of the second inning, with the Blue Jays having a runner at first base with one out. Unfortunately for this week, both Kutter Crawford and Yariel Rodriguez won’t be able to deliver anything for fantasy managers. Rotoworld Today, 6:00 pm

    • Receiving start Wednesday
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wesneski will start Wednesday's game in San Francisco, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Wesneski has previously made three starts for the Cubs this season, though none have come since May 8. While he'll be available on four days' rest after having made his last relief appearance Friday, Wesneski probably isn't built up enough to handle a traditional starter's workload. The Cubs are likely to move Wesneski back to the bullpen following Wednesday's game, as he was merely added to the rotation this week to give left-hander Shota Imanaga an extra day of rest between starts. • Mets recall Ty Adcock from Triple-A Syracuse
Mets recalled RHP Ty Adcock from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: The 27-year-old hurler will take the place of the injured Drew Smith (elbow) in the Mets’ bullpen. Adcock has pitched at the Triple-A level for three different organizations this season, compiling a 5.82 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and a 20/11 K/BB ratio across 17 innings. He’ll function in a middle relief role for the Mets. Rotoworld Today, 3:54 pm

    • Mets place Drew Smith (elbow) on 15-day IL
Mets placed RHP Drew Smith on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 24, with a right elbow sprain.

Advice: No word yet on exactly what was found in Smith’s MRI exam, but he’s going to miss a minimum of a couple of weeks — and likely longer. Ty Adcock was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move on Wednesday to take Smith’s place in the Mets’ bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 3:52 pm

    • Roansy Contreras labors through three innings
Roansy Contreras lasted just three-plus innings on Wednesday against the Athletics and allowed one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts.

Advice: This was Contreras’ first start of the season and he was stretched out to 61 pitches after not topping 50 yet this season. Working as a starter, he leaned far more on his slider than he had in his relief appearances and threw it more often than his fastball. Contreras used that slider as his primary pitch often last season in Pittsburgh as his fastball effectiveness waned. That fastball still isn’t great and he had trouble putting hitters away, as he seemingly always has. Rotoworld Today, 3:48 pm

    • Called up to Queens
The Mets recalled Adcock from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Advice: The 27-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Tigers in late May and will now receive his first look in the majors for the Mets. Adcock posted a 3.45 ERA over 15.2 frames in his first taste of the big leagues last year with Seattle, but he's struggled to a 5.82 ERA across 17 outings at the Triple-A level this season.
