  • Lane Thomas (knee) takes dry swings on Friday
Lane Thomas (knee) was able to take dry swings without issue on Friday.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee. It’s nice to hear that he’s already back up and swinging and it may not be long before he’s in the box against live pitching once again. The Nationals have yet to provide a potential timeline for his return. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Josiah Gray (elbow) to throw bullpen on Saturday
Josiah Gray (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler continues to make slow and methodical progress in his recovery from a flexor strain. If all goes well with Saturday’s session he could then be cleared to face live hitters. There’s still no clear timetable on when he may be able to rejoin the Nationals’ rotation. • Shifting to bullpen
The Mets are moving Houser to the bullpen for their upcoming road series, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Houser last started Thursday against the Cubs, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision. He's registering an 8.16 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 16:20 K:BB over 28.2 innings this season and holds an 0-3 record over six starts. With top pitching prospect Christian Scott making his major-league debut Saturday against the Rays and Tylor Megill (shoulder) inching closer to a return, Houser will shift over to the bullpen, at least temporarily. Following New York's road series against St. Louis, the Mets will determine whether Houser's move will be permanent going forward. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago
  • Athletics transfer Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list
Athletics transferred RHP Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander is still attempting to work his way back from last season’s hip surgery. This was done primarily as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster for Brett Harris who had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. • Could join MLB rotation next week
Javier (neck) will throw four innings or roughly 60-to-65 pitches Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi before potentially rejoining the big-league rotation, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said the hope is that Javier can rejoin Houston's rotation after this first rehab start, which would line him up to return either Thursday in New York or Friday in Detroit. He has been out since April 14 with neck discomfort. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
  • Athletics activate J.D. Davis from 10-day IL
Athletics activated INF J.D. Davis from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger has been shelved since the middle of April due to a right groin strain. He’ll return to a .196/.255/.373 slash line to go along with two homers, two RBI and a 16/3 K/BB ratio over 55 plate appearances through his first 14 ballgames. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Athletics option Nick Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas
Athletics optioned INF Nick Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder has struggled mightily at the plate this season, slashing a cringe-inducing .171/.227/.243 with one homer, three RBI, zero stolen bases and a 19/5 K/BB ratio over his first 77 plate appearances. He’ll look to get back on track at the Triple-A level. Brett Harris had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
  • Brought up by Rangers
Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Advice: Rodriguez will fill the spot of Nathan Eovaldi (groin) who was placed on the 15-Day IL on Friday. In six appearances with the Rangers this season, Rodriguez garnered a 10.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP with three home runs allowed. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago
  • Luis Garcia Jr. sits against left-hander on Friday
Luis Garcia Jr. is not in the Nationals’ starting lineup on Friday night with left-hander Yusei Kikuchi toeing the slab for the Blue Jays.

Advice: Like Garcia, fellow left-handers Jesse Winker and Eddie Rosario will get a night off with the southpaw on the hill for the Jays. Trey Lipscomb will make a rare start at second base and will bat ninth in Garcia’s place while Nick Senzel covers the hot corner for the Nationals. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
