  • Jeffrey Springs (elbow) faces hitters Wednesday
Jeffrey Springs (elbow) faced hitters on Wednesday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: Springs is slated to pitch in a Rookie-level Florida Complex League contest on Monday in his next outing. The 31-year-old lefty is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and could be an option for Tampa Bay’s starting rotation sometime around midseason. Rotoworld 6 minutes ago
  • Chas McCormick playing Friday at Triple-A
Chas McCormick (hamstring) will play in another minor league rehab game on Friday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: There was some hope that McCormick would be ready to return to Houston’s outfield mix on Friday, but he’s going to play in one additional rehab contest before a decision is made. The 29-year-old has gone 2-for-11 in three rehab games so far. He’s been out since early May due to a right hamstring strain. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago
  • Gavin Williams (elbow) throws 50-pitch bullpen
Gavin Williams (elbow) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: The positive news here is that Williams didn’t experience any discomfort in his first bullpen session since receiving an anti-inflammatory injection earlier this month to address right elbow discomfort. He’s scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Friday before the club determines his next steps. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
  • Timeline to return unclear
Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later. He doesn't have a clear timeline to return, and he managed only six plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma prior to the new injury. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
  • Diagnosed with bruise
Walker was diagnosed with a left foot bruise after exiting Thursday's start, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Walker exited after being struck by a line drive and limped off the field. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but he is currently undergoing imaging which should clarify his outlook. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Shane Baz (elbow) fills up strike zone on Thursday
Shane Baz (elbow) allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz struck out three and only issued a pair of walks. He generated only five swinging strikes, but was able to locate the strike zone effectively, throwing a whopping 49 of 69 pitches for strikes. It was a much-needed improvement after handing out five free passes his last time out. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect remains without a definitive timetable to return to Tampa Bay’s starting rotation as he continues to build up his pitch count and stamina in the minors. • Jackson Holliday homers Thursday at Triple-A
Orioles 2B/SS prospect Jackson Holliday went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI on Thursday for Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Holliday has made some subtle tweaks to his batting stance since returning to the minors and is batting .240/.424/.420 with two homers and two steals in 14 contests since the start of May for Triple-A Norfolk. More impressively, he’s drawn 16 walks and only struck out 15 times during that span. The precocious 20-year-old top prospect is going to get another chance in the majors at some point, but it doesn’t sound like the Orioles are going to rush him back. It’s extremely encouraging that he’s making adjustments and showing improvement right now. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago
  • Early exit from Thursday's start
Walker exited Thursday's start against the Mets after being struck in the left foot by a line drive, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Walker had completed 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out only one. It's unclear if the injury will affect his ability to take his next turn through the rotation, but he'll likely undergo imaging on either Thursday night or Friday. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago
  • Struggles in rookie ball start
Medina (knee) began a rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and was charged with six earned runs on six hits and zero walks while striking out three over two innings.

Advice: Though Medina didn't issue a walk in the first start of his rehab assignment, he didn't necessarily exhibit strong control, as he tossed two wild pitches and hit one of the 13 batters he faced. Some rustiness was to be expected from Medina, who hadn't pitched in a competitive setting since his March 4 Cactus League start before he went down with a Grade 2 MCL sprain of his right knee. He'll likely need three or four rehab starts to get fully stretched out, so he shouldn't be viewed as a realistic candidate to return from the 60-day injured list and join the Oakland rotation until around early-to-mid June.
