      Snell (groin) struck out nine over five scoreless innings in his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Sacramento. He allowed no hits and issued one walk.

      Advice: Making his third rehab start with Sacramento since landing on the 15-day injured list June 3, Snell made quick work of the Reno lineup, needing just 67 pitches (46 strikes) to record 15 outs. Based on how well he performed in addition to increasing his workload, Snell should be ready to return from the IL next week to make his next start with the Giants.       Gallen did not factor into the decision in a win over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: The Dodgers put Gallen to task early, drawing 85 pitches out of the right-hander over four innings, with all three runs coming against him in his final frame. It marked Gallen's shortest outing of the season outside of his injury-shortened appearance on May 30 against the Mets and he's now allowed three runs in three of his last four starts (excluding May 30).     • Surrenders four runs in defeat
      Bassitt (7-7) took the loss against Houston on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

      Advice: Bassitt got off to a terrible start in allowing six of the first seven batters he faced to reach base, resulting in three Astros runs. The veteran hurler bounced back to give up just one more run over the remainder of his five frames, but the first-inning damage was enough to send him to his seventh loss of the season. Bassitt had been rolling coming into Thursday, posting a 1.41 ERA across his previous five starts, and the four runs he yielded against Houston were his most since he gave up seven runs against the Dodgers on April 26. Bassitt's overall numbers this season have been pretty much in line with what fantasy managers have come to expect from him -- he has a 3.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 94:41 K:BB across 102.1 frames.       Zac Gallen allowed three runs over four innings Thursday in his start versus the Dodgers.

      Advice: The results weren’t great, but Gallen’s velocity tonight was even better in his first start back from the IL; he averaged 95.9 mph on his fastball, up from 95.2 mph last time out and 92.9 mph in the 11 starts before he went on the IL.       Morton (5-5) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Thursday.

      Advice: Morton continues to alternated between good and bad starts, with this one being not particularly sharp. He threw 54 of 94 pitches for strikes and served up home runs to Heliot Ramos and Matt Chapman in the fourth inning. This was the first time all year Morton has been taken deep multiple times in a start. He's been generally effective with a 3.96 ERA despite a 1.25 WHIP and 92:38 K:BB over 91 innings across 16 starts. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start at Arizona.       Charlie Morton allowed four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Giants on Thursday.



      Advice: Morton gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five. He had won two of his last three starts. Morton gave up a two-run home run to Heliot Ramos and a solo home run to Matt Chapman in the third inning. In the sixth inning, Chapman got him again for an RBI double. Morton has a 3.96 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 91 innings this season. The 40-year-old right-hander is set to face the Diamondbacks on the road next week.

      Chris Bassitt went five innings while allowing four runs in a loss to the Astros on Thursday.

      Advice: Bassitt, 35, gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out three. Most of the damage was done early, as he gave up three runs in the first inning before settling down. The right-hander had allowed just three total earned runs over his last two starts, so it goes without saying this outing — while not horrific — didn’t keep that good run going.       Blake Snell delivered a dominant performance in his final minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, piling up nine strikeouts over five scoreless frames.

      Advice: The reigning National League Cy Young award winner didn’t allow a hit in the contest, allowing just one base on balls. Snell got up to 67 pitches (46 strikes) in this one, cruising through his five innings. As long as he checks out fine physically, expect him to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week.       Advice: Bednar is expected to progress to throwing off a bullpen mound in the coming days. He landed on the injured list back in late June with a left oblique strain and will most likely be on the shelf until after the Midsummer Classic in a few weeks.
