    • Lands five-out save
Holmes earned the save Wednesday, allowing one hit with three strikeouts over 1.2 scoreless innings against Baltimore.

Advice: Holmes capped off an excellent game by the Yankees pitching staff, as they yielded three hits and no runs as a whole. Individually, Holmes logged three strikeouts for the first time all year and his 1.2 innings of work marked his longest outing of the campaign. He's yet to allow an earned run during 15 innings and is tied for the MLB lead in saves with 10. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:54 pm
    • Clay Holmes locks down five-out save against O’s
Clay Holmes slammed the door on the Orioles on Wednesday night, getting the final five outs to preserve a two-run advantage.

Advice: Holmes was called upon with two men on and one out in the eighth inning, and he quelled that threat by striking out Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman in succession to end the inning. He returned for the ninth where he allowed a leadoff single to Ryan O’Hearn and nothing more. The 31-year-old right-hander has been unbelievable so far this season, hurling 15 innings of scoreless baseball with a 16/1 K/BB ratio while converting 10 of his first 11 save chances. Studly. • Stuck with loss Tuesday
Lopez (2-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings.

Advice: Lopez struck out the side to begin his night en route to tying his season-high in strikeouts. He pitched well overall, but there was not much he could do with Atlanta not scoring until the eighth inning. His one costly mistake came in the third after allowing a two-run blast to Jorge Polanco and the Mariners would tack on a third run in the fourth, which proved to be the deciding run in the game. Tuesday was the first time Lopez had failed to pitch at least six innings and surrender more than a run. He's now given up a home run in back-to-back outings. Still, the 30-year-old has been nothing short of spectacular through the first month, posting a 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB in 30 innings. He currently lines up for a meeting with the Red Sox early next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:37 am

    • Reynaldo López allows three over five in loss
Reynaldo López allowed three runs in five innings while picking up a loss Tuesday to the Mariners.

Advice: López allowed six hits over those five frames, and he struck out seven while walking three with Josh Rojas getting all three free passes. The 30-year-old pitched better than his line suggested, but a two-run homer by Jorge Polanco turned an excellent outing into a shaky one from a fantasy perspective. Lopez still has an excellent 1.50 ERA, and he should be in fantasy lineups against Boston next week. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:47 pm

    • Throwing side session Wednesday
Sewald (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Sewald's last bullpen session, which was scheduled for Sunday, was put on hold after he experienced soreness following an appearance for Triple-A Reno. However, it's positive news that he's been cleared to toss a side session later in the week. The team will likely determine Sewald's next steps after his upcoming bullpen. • Takes care of business in ninth
Alvarado pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save in an 8-6 win over the Padres on Sunday. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado punched out Eguy Rosario and Luis Campusano before sealing the deal on a line out from Jurickson Profar for his first save since April 20. Alvarado has converted all five of his save chances, though he has an inflated ERA after giving up five runs in just two-thirds of an inning in his first appearance of the season. The hard-throwing lefty owns a 5.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB in 10.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:16 am
    • Jose Alvarado slams door on Padres in ninth inning
Jose Alvarado slammed the door on the Padres in the ninth inning on Sunday, retiring all three batters that he faced to protect a two-run advantage.

Advice: Alvarado came out guns blazing in this one, striking out Eguy Rosario and Luis Campusano before getting Jurickson Profar on a line drive to right field to end it. The 28-year-old left-hander has struggled a bit to start the season — sporting a 5.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 12/7 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings, but he has converted all five of his save chances and remains the Phillies’ go-to option in the ninth inning. • Paul Sewald scheduled to throw bullpen Wednesday
Paul Sewald (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: The Diamondbacks announced on Saturday that Sewald was having his rehab slowed a bit due to renewed soreness, but it sounds like it’s only a minor issue. He’s still probably going to need another appearance or two in rehab games before he’s cleared to return, but it’s not all doom and gloom for the Diamondbacks’ closer. • Pitches through side tightness
Hicks said he experienced a bit of side tightness during his start against the Pirates on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Hicks apparently felt the tightness following the sixth inning, though he still briefly came out for the seventh before being pulled after giving up a leadoff single. The right-hander is apparently fine, but it's still worth keeping an eye on his status heading into his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend in Philadelphia.
