    Gray (9-5) took the loss against the Reds on Saturday, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

    Advice: Gray allowed two runs in the third inning then endured a rough fifth frame, loading the bases and yielding a run on an error by Nolan Arenado. He was pulled after the error at 92 pitches, and each of the three inherited runners came around to score before the end of the frame. Gray generated a solid 14 swinging strikes on 92 pitches but failed to complete five innings for just the second time in 15 starts this season.     Jackson Merrill went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and two RBI in a blowout win Saturday over the Red Sox.

    Advice: Merrill continues to impress in his rookie campaign, and his slash after the three-hit game is now a healthy .288/.322/.456. The 21-year-old outfielder swatted a solo homer off Tanner Houck — one of three homers for the Padres off Houck on Saturday — and he drove in a run with a single for good measure.     Tanner Scott tossed a clean ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn the save against the Phillies on Saturday.

  • Aaron Nola strikes out nine in loss Saturday
    Aaron Nola allowed three runs with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

    Advice: A solo homer by Nick Gordon in the second inning was the only run Nola had allowed going into the seventh. He stayed in just a bit too long as two doubles and a base hit would bring two more runs in to score for the Marlins, costing Nola the chance for the win. Still, he struck out nine batters with no walks in the solid outing.   • Marte has three-hit game in win against Oakland
    Ketel Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI against the Athletics on Saturday.

    Advice: Marte started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning. He has a hit in five of his last six games. In that time, he’s 10-for-22 (.454) with two home runs and seven RBI. On the season, Marte is hitting .290 with an .877 OPS and 49 RBI. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

    Sonny Gray allowed six runs -- three earned -- with six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Reds on Saturday.

    Advice: Gray had worked through two scoreless innings to start the game before the Reds strung together three straight doubled to start the third inning, driving in two runs. A triple, a walk, and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out in the fifth. A fielding error would bring a run in and keep the bases loaded as Gray was relieved at 92 pitches. All inherited runners would come in to score. The 34-year-old right-hander will look to put this one behind him when he takes a 2.98 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 109/23 K/BB ratio across 87 2/3 innings into a road start against the Nationals on Friday.     Advice: O'Hoppe broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with his three-run blast to left field. The backstop has struggled at the plate of late, going just 6-for-33 (.182 average) with 12 strikeouts over his past 10 games, though he has two homers and six RBI during that stretch.     Advice: This certainly qualifies as a welcome surprise for fantasy managers following Springer’s early exit from Friday’s game against the Yankees after being hit on his left hand by a 93.5 mph fastball. The positive news here is that precautionary X-rays came back negative for any fractures and the fact that he’s already back in the lineup means that the swelling isn’t bad enough that it’s preventing him from gripping a bat. It’s been a down year offensively for the 34-year-old veteran outfielder, but the Blue Jays need his bat in the lineup if they’re going to have any shot at turning things around before the trade deadline.
