    Advice: Merrill singled in his first at-bat before crushing a three-run shot off Carlos Rodriguez in the fourth to put San Diego on the board. The shortstop would reach four times on the night and has now recorded multiple hits in three of his last four games.   • Jackson Merrill powers Padres past Brewers
    Jackson Merrill went 3-for-3, drew a walk and clobbered a three-run homer on Saturday, powering the Padres to a 6-4 victory over the Brewers in San Diego.

    Advice: Merrill smacked a one-out single off of Carlos Rodriguez in the second inning, but was ultimately stranded at third base. The 21-year-old outfielder then broke a scoreless tie with his mammoth 440-foot (105.9 mph EV) three-run blast to center field in the fourth inning. He also singled in the sixth.   • Trea Turner hits first home run off IL
    Trea Turner went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday.

    Advice: Turner has hit safely in all three games since returning from his hamstring injury yet this home run was his first extra-base hit. He smacked it 110.6 MPH off the bat, two MPH harder than he’s hit a ball all season.   • Homers, drives in three in loss
    Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday.

    Advice: Turner hit a two-run home run off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning then added an RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh. Turner has gone 5-for-14 since returning from a hamstring injury, and the homer was his first since April 17. He has been excellent when healthy this season, slashing .344/.389/.470 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 29 runs scored and 10 steals over 162 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:19 pm

  • Continues power surge Thursday
    Merrill went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-6 win over Milwaukee on Thursday.

    Advice: Merrill hit the second of back-to-back homers with Manny Machado in the first inning to give San Diego an early lead. The long ball was the second in as many days for Merrill, who has surged in the power department of late, with six of his nine homers on the campaign coming over his past eight games. All six of those long balls have been of the solo variety, but it's still a positive development for Merrill's fantasy managers after he went deep just three times over his first 68 games.     Willy Adames went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks in the Brewers’ 2-0 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

    Advice: Adames drew walks in the first and third innings, then gave the Brewers an insurance run in the eighth with a base hit to drive in Christian Yelich from second base.     Advice: The rookie center fielder accounted for the Padres' only run off Ranger Suarez, driving a two-seam fastball from the southpaw over the right-field wall in the second inning. Merrill has eight homers on the year, but five of them have come in the last seven games, boosting his slash line on the season to .279/.317/.417 with nine steals, 30 RBI and 32 runs in 74 contests.     Advice: Merrill kicked off the scoring in this one with a 401-foot second-inning blast to right field -- his eighth big fly of the season -- off Phillies starter Ranger Suárez. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has caught fire over the past few days, going deep a whopping five times over his last seven contests since June 12.
