    • Willson Contreras ties game with homer in ninth
Willson Contreras went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and walk in the Cardinals’ 7-6 win over the Nationals.

Advice: Contreras’ homer finally brought the Cardinals all the way back after trailing 5-0 early in this game. He has yet to get going after returning from the IL late in June, but the long ball was his second in three games and this was his first multi-hit game since coming back. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
    • Officially activated
The Padres reinstated Campusano (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Advice: A bruised thumb has kept Campusano on the IL since June 22, though he's managed to go 2-for-15 with four RBI in four rehab games at Single-A. He'll take a seat Friday while Kyle Higashioka catches for Randy Vasquez, but Campusano is slated to return behind the plate Sunday. Rotowire.com Today, 5:03 pm
    • Padres activate Luis Campusano from 10-day IL
Padres activated C Luis Campusano from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 25-year-old has been shelved since June 21 due to a left thumb contusion. While he was activated, Campusano is not in the Padres’ starting lineup on Friday night, it’s Kyle Higashioka behind the dish. Eguy Rosario was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 4:51 pm
    • Returning from IL
Campusano (thumb) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Campusano has been on the injured list since June 22 due to a left thumb injury and has played four rehab games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, during which he went 2-for-15 with a homer and four RBI. The 25-year-old backstop said he will resume catching for the Padres on Sunday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, at which point he should take over for Kyle Higashioka as the Friars' primary backstop. Campusano has slashed .234/.282/.371 across 220 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 3:37 pm
    • Griffin Canning takes ninth loss versus Cubs
Griffin Canning yielded four runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Just five of the 15 balls in play against Canning were hit hard, but those five did produce four hits, including a homer. While Canning definitely looks better now than he did in April, he’s still been more adequate than good. One imagines he’s someone who could be made available in trade talks this month; another club could probably get more out of him than the Halos have. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm
    • Struggles again in loss
Canning (3-9) took the loss against the Cubs on Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Advice: Canning surrendered a two-run homer in the first inning and allowed two more runs before being pulled with two outs to go in the fifth. This was the first time the righty failed to complete five frames in a start since April 13, and he has now yielded four earned runs four times in his past five outings. On the season, the 28-year-old owns a 4.87 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 67:34 K:BB over 98 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Rangers next week. Rotowire.com Today, 1:50 pm
    • Tommy Edman to start rehab assignment on Tuesday
Tommy Edman (wrist, ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.

Advice: Edman is set to take live batting practice on Friday and Saturday before heading out to finally begin his minor league rehab assignment. Given the long layoff, he’s probably going to need quite a few games there before he’s deemed ready to join the Cardinals. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until after the All-Star break. • Records fourth steal in win
Rooker went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Angels on Thursday.

Advice: Rooker provided the only multi-hit effort of the night for the Athletics while swiping a bag to tie the career high of four stolen bases he'd set in 2023. The 29-year-old is on a week-plus tear at the plate, hitting .394 and generating four multi-hit tallies in his last nine games. Rotowire.com Today, 8:56 am

    • Let down by 'pen in dominant outing
Pivetta struck out 10 batters while allowing one hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Miami on Thursday.

Advice: Pivetta was downright dominant Thursday, racking up 15 swinging strikes en route to his second double-digit punchout performance of the campaign. He held the Marlins hitless until Jesus Sanchez tripled against him in the seventh inning, and the right-hander departed in line for a victory with a 2-0 lead. However, Boston's bullpen eliminated Pivetta's chance for the win by giving up two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Nonetheless, the performance was an excellent bounce-back for Pivetta after he had posted a 6.98 ERA and 1.81 WHIP across his previous four starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:28 pm
