    • Suffers setback
Carpenter (back) experienced discomfort Tuesday while completing his return-to-play progression, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Carpenter has been participating in baseball activities since June 21 and had been progressing well prior to enduring the setback. Carpenter will given some time off for rest and recovery before resuming baseball activities, all but guaranteeing he'll be out until after the All-Star break. Carpenter has been on the IL since May 29 due to lumbar spine inflammation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:52 pm

    • Reds activate Tyler Stephenson for Tuesday return
Reds activated C Tyler Stephenson from the paternity list.

Advice: Stephenson is back handling the catching duties on Tuesday night after a four-game absence to be with his family for the birth of their child. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:23 pm
    • Rejoins roster
The Reds activated Stephenson (personal) from the family medical emergency list Tuesday.

Advice: Stephenson was away from the club for a few days following the birth of his child but is back for the start of its series in New York against the Yankees. Austin Wynns was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:51 am
    • Kerry Carpenter (back) making slow progress
Tigers manager AJ Hinch told reporters that Kerry Carpenter (back) continues to make progress and participate in baseball activities.

Advice: Hinch also noted that the progress is still slow for Carpenter as he works his way back from the lumbar injury that has sidelined the 26-year-old since the end of May. The outfielder will surely need a rehab assignment after missing over a month, but it’s feasible that Carpenter could help fantasy rosters and Detroit after the All-Star break. • Transferred to emergency list
The Reds transferred Stephenson (personal) from the paternity list to the family medical emergency list Monday.

Advice: Stephenson had been away for the last three games while on the paternity list. By rule, players can miss 3-to-7 days while on the family medical emergency list, whereas he would have to be activated ahead of Tuesday's game against the Yankees had he remained on the paternity list. Luke Maile and Austin Wynns will handle catching duties for Cincinnati while Stephenson is away. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:06 pm
    • Starting to swing bat
Ruiz (wrist) has progressed to swinging off a tee, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ruiz's recovery has seemingly picked up some steam after a quiet first few weeks following his placement on the IL. The speedy outfielder's progression to working with a bat was preceded by a strengthening program, and Ruiz seems to be setback-free thus far since he began ramping up his activity level. • Nationals designate Eddie Rosario for assignment
Nationals designated OF Eddie Rosario for assignment

Advice: The Nationals will move on from Rosario to clear a spot on their roster for top prospect James Wood. Rosario has had a really poor season for Washington, hitting .183/.226/.329 in 67 games; however, he does have seven home runs, eight steals, and a career-high average exit velocity of 90.6 mph. As a veteran left-handed hitter, Rosario is likely to find an opportunity somewhere as a bench bat. Perhaps his old team, the Atlanta Braves, will look to bring him back after injuries to Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris II. Rotoworld Monday, 7:40 am

    • Removed from 40-man roster
The Nationals designated Rosario for assignment Monday.

Advice: He's clearing out to make room on the 40-man roster for top prospect James Wood, who was promoted from Triple-A Rochester. The 32-year-old put up a lowly .450 OPS in June and slashed just .183/.226/.329 over 235 plate appearances on the season for Washington. Rosario will clear waivers and become a free agent in the next few days, and he should be able to find another club willing to give him a shot. Rotowire.com Monday, 6:21 am

    • Ready for rehab assignment
Amador (oblique) was sent to Double-A Hartford on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: Amador has been on the 10-day injured list for a little over a week with a strained oblique but has been cleared to return to game action. He should be ready to be activated soon, but with Brendan Rodgers beating him back from the IL, Amador is likely to remain with Hartford upon his activation rather than returning to the Rockies.
