    • Cruises to 14th save
Clase earned a save against the Mets on Monday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: Clase inherited a two-run lead when he entered in the ninth frame and made quick work of New York, needing just 12 pitches to set down the side in order. The right-hander has yielded just one earned run all season, giving him a sparkling 0.37 ERA through 24.1 frames. Clase has posted an outstanding 24:2 K:BB and is tied for first in the majors with 14 saves. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:57 pm
    • Expected to require surgery
Whitlock has damage in his right UCL and will likely need surgery, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Whitlock was shut down from throwing after he reported soreness in his right elbow Wednesday, and after further evaluation, it's been discovered that he has ligament damage. The right-hander will see a doctor in Birmingham later in the week, as he could be in the process of seeking a second opinion before electing surgery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:22 pm
    • Elbow surgery a possibility for Garrett Whitlock
Garrett Whitlock has UCL damage in his elbow and will receive a second opinion later this week.

Advice: Unfortunate, but it did seem like was coming. Assuming that Whitlock has surgery, he’ll almost certainly miss the rest of the season, and his return next year might come as a reliever. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm
    • Emmanuel Clase lowers ERA to 0.37 on Monday
Emmanuel Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Mets to record his league-leading 14th save of the season.

Advice: Clase was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to end the contest. The 26-year-old elite stopper has converted a major league-leading 14 of 17 save opportunities to go along with a microscopic 0.37 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 24/2 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings (25 appearances). He hasn’t allowed an earned run since April 14. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:03 pm
    • Erick Fedde yields five runs to Blue Jays
Erick Fedde allowed five runs in six innings against the Blue Jays on Monday to take his first loss of the season.

Advice: Fedde gave up five runs for the third time this season. Fortunately, he’s allowed a total of six runs in his other seven starts combined, leaving him 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:39 pm
    • Tagged for five runs in loss
Fedde (4-1) took the loss Monday against Toronto, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Fedde got hit hard in his start, as five of the seven hits he yielded went for extra bases. Despite the rough outing, the 31-year-old righty sports a 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 52:15 K:BB over 58 innings this season. Fedde is slated to face Baltimore at home in his next start this weekend. • Wins after blown save
Clase (3-1) allowed an unearned run and struck out one batter in one inning of work Sunday against the Twins. He was charged with a blown save but earned the win.

Advice: Clase gave up the game-tying run on an error in the ninth inning, but Cleveland walked it off in the bottom half of the frame. It was his first blown save since April 16, and he's now 13 for 16 in save chances this season. He's fired 16.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run, dropping his season ERA to 0.39 with a 24:2 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:03 am
    • Earns unconventional save
Romano picked up a save Sunday against Tampa Bay, striking out the only batter he faced during the 5-2 win.

Advice: Romano was pushed into the save chance after Zach Pop surrendered a two-run home run and then gave up a single to Richie Palacios with two outs in the ninth. Romano got Jonny DeLuca to go down swinging to close out the victory and notch his seventh save of the campaign. Across 11.0 innings, Romano owns a 4.91 ERA with one blown save and a 10:3 K:BB. • Quality start in loss
Lorenzen (2-3) allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 6.1 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Angels.

Advice: Lorenzen kept the Angels off the board for six innings but left two runners on base that Jonathan Hernandez ultimately allowed to score in the seventh. That was enough to stick Lorenzen with his third loss in five outings despite earning his third quality start in that span. The right-hander is at a decent 3.61 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 33:21 K:BB over 42.1 innings through seven starts this season, but he hasn't been getting much in the way of run support lately -- the Rangers have scored more than four runs in just one of his appearances. Lorenzen is projected to make his next start at Minnesota. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:47 pm
