      Adam allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across 0.2 innings to earn a hold Thursday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: Adam entered the game in the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to exit after the Rays' exceeded their mound visit limit. He was laboring toward the end of the outing, having allowed each of the last two batters he faced to reach base. Though it wasn't his most dominant appearance, Adam has been excellent this season and has turned in six consecutive scoreless appearances. He could be a candidate for save chances moving forward on occasions when Pete Fairbanks is unavailable or used in high-leverage situations earlier in a contest.     • Diaz blows back-to-back saves
      Edwin Diaz blew another save against the Phillies on Thursday.



      Advice: Three days after blowing his second save of the season, Diaz blew another save opportunity against the Phillies. Pitching with a one-run lead, Diaz walked Brandon Marsh to start the ninth inning. Marsh advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Bryson Stott. All three of Diaz’ blown saves have come in the month of May. Once an elite closer, Diaz is showing the rust of someone who missed an entire season with a knee injury.

      Diaz blew the save Thursday against Philadelphia, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over one inning.

      Advice: Diaz inherited a one-run lead for the bottom of the ninth but didn't convert his sixth save of 2024. Instead, Diaz walked Brandon Marsh and then allowed Marsh to reach second on a wild pitch before Bryson Stott hit an RBI single to send the game into extras.     • Blanks Nats for fourth win
      Crochet (4-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Nationals, giving up three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: The left-hander wasn't exactly efficient, tossing only 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Crochet lasted long enough to qualify for the win. After a rough stretch in April, the 24-year-old has allowed only three runs over his last three starts (1.59 ERA) with a stellar 24:1 K:BB in 17 innings.     • Garrett Crochet keeps rolling in win over Nats
      Garrett Crochet recorded six strikeouts over five shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Nationals.

      Advice: Crochet turned in his fourth consecutive strong performance during Wednesday’s afternoon matinee at Guaranteed Rate Field, limiting Washington’s lineup to just three hits and three walks over five shutout frames. The 24-year-old southpaw’s average fastball velocity remained in the mid-to-upper 90’s as he generated 11 swinging strikes and finished with a pedestrian 27 percent CSW. He wasn’t completely dominant in this one, but it was another encouraging outing after a couple rough starts at the tail-end of April. How he holds up with a traditional starter’s workload will be the central question as the season progresses, but obviously there’s a lot to like about his performance so far. He’ll bring a solid 4.18 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 70/12 K/BB ratio across 51 1/3 innings (10 starts) into a road matchup on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:40 pm
       
    • Dominates again Tuesday
      Miller, who'd pitched just once in the previous 11 games entering Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Astros, threw 14 fastballs of at least 100.5 mph out of his 29 pitches during his two scoreless innings, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Miller's arm was clearly fresh, and manager Mark Kotsay deployed his closer for multiple innings in the tie game as a result. Miller rewarded him by recording five strikeouts -- including of the noteworthy trio of Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena -- over his 29 pitches. The elite velocity helped Miller to his 13th straight scoreless outing and extended his career-high scoreless streak to 17.1 innings. The improved - but still inconsistent - Athletics have afforded Miller just eight save chances among his 14 appearances, but he's converted each and now boasts a minuscule 0.98 ERA and 0.65 WHIP alongside a 38:5 K:BB across 18.1 innings.       Hader (2-3) allowed a walk and struck out three over two scoreless and hitless innings to earn the extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday.

      Advice: After starter Ronel Blanco was ejected for the alleged use of a foreign substance, this became a bit of a bullpen game for the Astros as they looked to protect a 1-0 lead. Ryan Pressly couldn't maintain the lead in the eighth inning, but Hader pitched well in the ninth and 10th, and he got the win after Victor Caratini delivered a walk-off hit as a pinch hitter. Hader's active 4.1-inning scoreless streak is his longest of the season. He's now at a 4.74 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB with five saves in six chances over 19 innings this season.       Advice: With Pete Fairbanks unavailable due to a cut on his throwing hand, Adam was called upon Monday to close the door for his third save. Adam, who served as the Rays' main end-game option while Fairbanks was on the shelf prior to his return on May 11, will likely remain the preferred option until Fairbanks is ready to return from his most recent setback.       Advice: Diaz looked extremely unsettled Monday night, issuing his first free passes since April 20, ending a streak of eight walk-free innings. Even more indicative of his unsteady control, the Mets closer allowed the tying run to score by beaning Alec Bohm with the bases loaded.
