• Records fifth save
Bednar earned the save against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over one inning.

Advice: Bednar entered the game with a three-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and surrendered a two-run shot to Jorge Soler in the leadoff at-bat to make it 4-3. The reliever would also allow an infield single in the frame, but managed to work his way through it, retiring all three batters by way of strikeout. Bednar has now converted each of his last four save attempts, though he's also allowed at least one run in back-to-back appearances, leaving him with a dreadful 13.50 ERA in April. • Allows one run in no-decision
Perez pitched six innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

Advice: Perez was highly-efficient Saturday, retiring 11 of the first 13 batters he faced before eventually surrendering an RBI double to Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the sixth. It marked the veteran lefty's third start this season in which he lasted six or more innings while he's now given up two or fewer runs in four of his six outings overall. On the downside, he's also issued multiple walks in all but one start this season. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago
  • Season-high nine strikeouts
Hicks did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine of six innings.

Advice: Hicks was in the zone Saturday, striking out the side in the first inning before going on to retire 10 of the first 12 batters he faced in the contest. He actually allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of the seven innings in which he appeared, but wasn't charged with a run until the seventh, after being relieved by Luke Jackson. Hicks has now been hit with a no-decision in each of his last three starts despite holding his opponents to two or fewer runs in those outings. The right-hander also recorded a season-high nine strikeouts Saturday and did not walk a batter after issuing at least two free passes in each of his last three starts. • Andrés Muñoz quiets D-backs to earn fourth save
Andrés Muñoz tossed a perfect ninth inning on Saturday against the Diamondbacks to record his fourth save of the season.

Advice: Muñoz got the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and needed just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to retire the side in order. The 25-year-old flamethrower has converted four of five save chances this season to accompany a solid 2.61 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 13/6 K/BB ratio across 10 1/3 innings (11 appearances). • Chris Paddack coasts to easy win over Angels
Chris Paddack gave up four runs over five innings on Saturday in a win over the Angels.

Advice: Paddack received nine runs of support from Minnesota’s offense through four frames and was able to cruise to a relatively easy win, despite allowing eight hits, including a two-run homer to Jo Adell. He notched two strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 28-year-old righty generated some buzz with a strong spring, but simply hasn’t delivered so far with a bloated 5.88 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 21/6 K/BB ratio across 26 innings (five starts). He’s simply not missing enough bats to be worthy of a fantasy roster spot, even in deeper mixed leagues. He’ll face the Red Sox on Friday at home in his next outing. Rotoworld Today, 4:12 am

  • José Soriano hit hard Saturday in loss to Twins
José Soriano was torched for four runs over 1 2/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Twins.

Advice: Soriano was mercifully lifted in the second inning after allowing eight of the 12 batters he faced to reach base safely on three hits, three walks and a pair of hit batters. The latest calamitous abbreviated outing casts some doubt on his long-term viability as a starter since he’s completed five innings just twice in four starts since April 10. The strikeouts have been there, but he’s simply too risky to trust for fantasy purposes at the moment. He’s in line to face the Guardians on Friday at Progressive Field his next time out. • David Bednar hangs on for save against Giants
David Bednar was charged with two runs (one earned) in the 10th inning on Saturday against the Giants, but still managed to record his fifth save of the season.

Advice: Bednar got the call to protect a three-run lead in extra innings and immediately served up a two-run homer to Giants slugger Jorge Soler, which slashed the lead down to a single run. He struck out Michael Conforto before giving up a one-out single to Thairo Estrada, but managed to escape the jam by striking out LaMonte Wade Jr. and Mike Yastrzemski to end the contest. He’s converted just five of eight save chances this season and holds an inflated 11.70 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (12 appearances). It’s hard to draw firm conclusions based on early-season results, but Bednar has certainly struggled out of the gate. Rotoworld Today, 4:01 am
  • Martín Pérez tosses six strong frames Saturday
Martín Pérez was charged with one run over six innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Giants.

Advice: Pérez struck out four and only issued a pair of walks. He was long gone before this one was decided in extra innings, but turned in yet another solid performance in his Pirates debut. The 33-year-old journeyman southpaw has allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of his six starts to open the season. He’ll bring a solid 2.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 27/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (six starts) into a favorable home matchup on Friday against the Rockies. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 am
  • Jordan Hicks posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Jordan Hicks recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball on Saturday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Hicks was simply magnificent in this one, continuing his early-season run of success in his Giants debut, coaxing 15 swinging strikes -- including 11 whiffs on his splitter alone -- and finishing with a near-elite 35 percent CSW. The hard-throwing 27-year-old has excelled in his conversion back to a traditional starting role for San Francisco, allowing two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts to open the year. There’s some regression looming in run-prevention department, but he’s been outstanding no matter how you slice the underlying data. He’ll carry a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27/10 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 am
