    • Cubs place Dansby Swanson (knee) on 10-day IL
Cubs placed INF Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 8, with a right knee sprain.

Advice: Swanson sat out of Wednesday’s contest due to soreness in his knee, and now he’ll be out for at least an additional week while recovering. Fortunately, the Cubs also got good news on the injury front on Friday with Seiya Suzuki being activated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Expect Nico Hoerner to slide over and cover shortstop while Swanson is shelved, leaving Miles Mastrobuoni to see increased action at second base. Rotoworld Today, 1:49 pm

    • Placed on 10-day IL
Swanson (right knee sprain) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 8, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Swanson missed Wednesday's game against the Padres with knee soreness stemming from an awkward slide that occurred on April 25, and the injury has now been deemed a right knee sprain. Nico Hoerner slotted in at shortstop Wednesday while Miles Mastrobuoni got the start at second -- a change that could be the norm while Swanson sits. The shortstop will first be eligible to return May 18 Rotowire.com Today, 1:45 pm

    • Belts eighth homer
Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in a 4-3 victory versus the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Alvarez helped Houston get off to a quick start with his first-inning solo blast. He then knocked a double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Jeremy Pena single. Alvarez had been mired in a bad slump coming into Thursday, going 3-for-32 over his previous nine games since hitting two homers against Colorado on April 27. His season slash line of .245/.325/.448 remains well below his career norm. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:20 pm
    • Improves to 4-0
Blanco (4-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Blanco was a bit shaky with his control, as he threw just 62 of 107 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes. However, he allowed just one extra-base hit -- an Anthony Volpe two-run homer that accounted for both runs against him. Blanco thus improved his perfect record to 4-0 on the season, and he's allowed three or fewer runs in all seven of his starts. He's also recorded five quality starts on the campaign, falling one out shy in each of his two outings during which he hasn't met that mark. Blanco has cemented his place in Houston's rotation with a 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:20 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:04 pm
    • Yordan Alvarez goes deep in win over Yankees
Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday, powering the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.

Advice: Alvarez kicked off the scoring in the opening frame by taking Yankees starter Marcus Stroman deep for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer explosion back on April 27, snapping a nine-game homerless drought. The 26-year-old four-category fantasy superstar is batting .245/.325/.448 with 21 runs scored, eight homers and 19 RBI through 163 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:07 pm
    • Ronel Blanco goes 5 2/3 frames to beat Yankees
Ronel Blanco allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Yankees.

Advice: Blanco generated 13 swinging strikes, and finished with five strikeouts, but also battled control issues throughout this one, handing out four free passes as well. He managed to limit New York’s formidable lineup to just a two-run homer by Anthony Volpe into the middle innings, which was enough to hang on for his fourth win of the year. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41/20 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (seven starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Tuesday against the Athletics. • Guardians transfer Gavin Williams to 60-day IL
Guardians transferred RHP Gavin Williams to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed with Williams from a return timetable standpoint as the procedural move merely clears up a spot on Cleveland’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired reliever Darren McCaughan. The 24-year-old righty has been on the shelf since spring training due to right elbow inflammation, but was able to resume a throwing program last week following a brief setback. There’s a chance he’s ready to return at some point next month. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:53 am

    • Shifted to 60-day IL
The Guardians transferred Williams (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the team's 40-man roster for the addition of Darren McCaughan. Williams resumed a throwing program a week ago after a brief shutdown period following a setback with his right elbow. It was going to take him a while to get ramped back up anyway, though, so this transaction shouldn't alter his timetable. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:43 am

    • Getting breather Thursday
Correa is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Mariners.

Advice: Correa is getting a routine day off after he had started in all nine games for the Twins since he returned from the injured list April 29. Willi Castro will step in at shortstop in place of Correa, who popped a solo home run -- his second of the season -- in Wednesday's 6-3 win. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:23 am
