    • Escapes with sixth save
Neris allowed one run on two hits and one walk but recorded the final three outs of Saturday's game against the Brewers to earn his sixth save of the season. He struck out one batter.

Advice: Neris put the tying run in scoring position with just one out, but he then buckled down and retired Tyler Black and Willy Adames to preserve the win for starter Jameson Taillon. With six saves in as many attempts since April 20, and with Adbert Alzolay struggling to get on track in lower-leverage situations, Neris appears to be shoring up his spot in the ninth inning under manager Craig Counsell. • Héctor Neris records sixth save against Brewers
Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning, holding on for the save against the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: It hasn’t come easy for Neris, but he just keeps getting by in the ninth inning. He was summoned with a two-run lead against the Brewers and gave up a run on two hits and a walk before closing it out for his sixth save. Mark Letter Jr. tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before handing it over to Neris. He’ll be someone to watch if Neris struggles to convert saves going forward. • Cole Irvin turns in another scoreless start in win
Cole Irvin allowed only a pair of hits over 6 1/3 innings Friday in the Orioles’ 3-0 shutout of the Reds.

Advice: It’s Irvin’s third straight scoreless start. His stint in the rotation figured to be a short one with Kyle Bradish and John Means on the IL to open the year, but he’s gained a reprieve with Grayson Rodriguez and Tyler Wells going down and he’s making the most of it, having gone 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA to date. • Another stellar outing
Irvin (3-1) earned the win Friday over the Reds, allowing just two hits while striking out four over 6.1 scoreless innings.

Advice: Irvin continued a dominant run in which he's won three consecutive starts while extending his scoreless streak to 20.2 innings. The 30-year-old left-hander's ERA is down to 2.86 with a 1.07 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across six starts (34.2 innings) this season. Irvin will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against Arizona. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:39 pm

    • Sticks in rotation
Irvin is slated to start Friday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Orioles returned Kyle Bradish (forearm) and John Means (elbow) from the 15-day injured list this week, but with Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) landing on the IL on Wednesday, Baltimore will only have to move one starter out of the rotation to accommodate the two new arrivals. At least for this week, the Orioles are opting to keep Irvin in the rotation over Albert Suarez, who is now being listed as a reliever after he had posted a 2.35 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 15.1 innings over his three starts with Baltimore. Irvin's season-long numbers (3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB in 28.1 innings) aren't quite as sparkling as Suarez's, but the southpaw has been excellent his last two times out, blanking the Royals on the road over 6.2 innings on April 21 before spinning seven shutout innings against the Athletics last Saturday. He could have a tougher time keeping the scoreless stretch going this weekend, as he'll take on the Reds in one of baseball's more hitter-friendly parks. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:54 am

    • Notches another save
Neris worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and record the save in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Mets.

Advice: Shota Imanaga dominated the Mets across seven innings, and then Neris shut things down to secure his fifth save of the season. The veteran righty has pitched well since taking over closing duties from Adbert Alzolay, as Neris has allowed just one earned run over his last five appearances, lowering his season ERA to 3.27. While things could change at some point, it looks like Neris is locked in as the closer in Chicago for now. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:15 pm

    • Héctor Neris holds on for fifth save Wednesday
Héctor Neris worked a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: Neris was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game with a one-run lead. He recorded one out, then hit a batter and gave up a double to put the tying run on third and the go-ahead run in scoring position. Jeff McNeil hit a fly out and Pete Alonso was tagged out at home to end the game. Neris is up to five saves despite some shaky outings. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:55 pm

    • Secures fourth save
Neris worked around two walks to pitch a clean ninth inning and record the save in Monday's 3-1 win over the Mets. He struck out two.

Advice: Neris put a few runners on base, but he got out of trouble to secure his fourth save of the season. All of those saves have come in the last nine days, which coincides with Adbert Alzolay getting removed from the closer's role. The more success Neris has moving forward, the firmer his grip will get on the job, which will only increase his fantasy value. The veteran is the top Chicago reliever to target at the moment. • Héctor Neris notches fourth save Monday vs. Mets
Héctor Neris tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Monday against the Mets to record his fourth save of the season.

Advice: Neris continues to tighten his hold on Chicago’s closing role, converting four of his five save chances, including three in the last week alone since Adbert Alzolay was removed from the late-inning mix. The 34-year-old righty has allowed just one run over his last seven appearances since April 13. At this point, he should be rostered in all fantasy leagues. Rotoworld Monday, 6:27 pm
