    • Jack Flaherty earns first victory of 2024 season
Jack Flaherty picked up his first victory of the 2024 season on Saturday night, limiting the Diamondbacks to two runs on five hits over six strong frames.

Advice: The right-hander piled up nine strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. He exited after six innings with the Tigers trailing 2-0, but luckily for him they rallied to score six times with two outs in the seventh inning to put him in line for the win. Flaherty got 17 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the contest — 10 on his slider — while posting a terrific CSW of 36 percent. Now 1-3 on the season, he’ll tote a 3.79 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and an impressive 72/8 K/BB ratio (54 2/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 8:04 pm

    • Fans career-high 14 in win
Gil (5-1) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 6-1 victory over the White Sox. He struck out 14.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander set a new career high in Ks -- in fact, Gil has never struck out more than nine batters in a big-league start before. He generated an incredible 22 swinging strikes among his 98 pitches, and 40 combined called/swinging strikes, as he produced his fourth straight quality start and won his fifth straight decision. Gil is having a breakout campaign, and he'll take a 2.39 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 62:27 K:BB through 49 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Mariners. Christopher Morel went 1-for-3, driving in the winning run in the Cubs 1-0 win over the Pirates on Saturday.

Advice: The Cubs and Pirates were scoreless going into the bottom of the ninth in what turned out to be a pitchers duel. Cody Bellinger reached scoring position with a one-out double off David Bednar. Morel followed with a base hit to walk it off, bringing Bellinger home for the winning run. The 24-year-old slugger is hitting .217/.300/.416 with nine homers, 32 RBI, and four steals across 190 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 1:38 pm

    • Luis Gil fans 14 in dominant win vs. White Sox
Luis Gil allowed one run with 14 strikeouts over six innings in a win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Gil turned in a dominant performance after a shaky first inning. Two base hits, a double, and a walk brought a run in to score and loaded the bases before Gil struck out the final batter to end the opening frame. He allowed just two more hits across five more scoreless innings, striking out a career-high 14 batters on 22 whiffs. The 25-year-old right-hander ends the day with an impressive 2.39 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 62/27 K/BB ratio across 49 innings. Gil is in line for a start against the Mariners in New York on Thursday. • Gets breather Saturday
Mountcastle isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Mountcastle will get a day to regroup Saturday after going 1-for-16 across his last four games. While he sits, Ryan O'Hearn will pick up a start at first base while Anthony Santander serves as Baltimore's DH, opening up a spot in the outfield for Austin Hays. Rotowire.com Today, 10:32 am
    • Goes deep again Friday
Ward went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-3 win against Texas.

Advice: Ward padded what was already a large Angels lead with a solo shot in the sixth inning. It was his second homer in his past two contests and gave him an RBI in three straight games. Ward has gone deep nine times through 188 plate appearances this year, putting him on pace so surpass his career-best mark of 23 long balls set two seasons ago. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am

    • Secures fourth save
Fairbanks struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The right-hander needed only six pitches (five strikes) to dispatch the heart of Toronto's order, setting down Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero and Justin Turner. Fairbanks still isn't quite flashing his usual velocity -- he topped out at 97.3 mph with his fastball Friday after averaging 98.9 mph in 2023 -- but he hasn't seemed to miss the extra gear since coming off the IL, firing four straight hitless, scoreless appearances with a 6:0 K:BB. • Goes deep again Friday
Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Ohtani reclaimed a share of the major-league lead in homers with his 13th long ball of the year, which came off Frankie Montas in the third inning. Over his last 12 games, Ohtani's slugged six homers with 12 RBI and seven multi-hit efforts. He's slashing an electrifying .358/.426/.676 with 32 RBI, 36 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 16 doubles and a triple through 204 plate appearances while occupying the No. 2 spot in the Dodgers' stacked lineup. • Shohei Ohtani swats 13th homer of season in win
Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer to help the Dodgers prevail 7-3 over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Ohtani scored twice in the contest. It’s the 13th homer for the 29-year-old, and it came in the third inning with Mookie Betts on base. His first season with the Dodgers have been nothing short of spectacular, as he’s now slashing .358/.426/.676 with 32 RBI to go with those roundtrippers. It’s borderline impossible to offer hyperbole when discussing how good Ohtani is at baseball. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:40 pm
