    • Yankees option Oswald Peraza to Triple-A
Yankees activated INF Oswald Peraza from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Peraza was placed on the IL with a shoulder strain during spring training, which gave Oswaldo Cabrera the chance to compete for a starting job. The Yankees also traded for Jon Berti, so the infield has gotten a bit crowded. Peraza will try to get his timing back at Triple-A, but there doesn’t appear to be any path for him to make it back to the big leagues unless there’s an injury to any of the players ahead of him. • Homers off bench
Hamilton hit a solo home run in his lone plate appearance in Sunday's 11-3 win over St. Louis.

Advice: Hamilton entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and belted his second home run of the season. He's hit in four straight games (5-for-11), but his playing time has largely dried up since Ceddanne Rafaela was moved from center field to shortstop. Hamilton's started just five times over the last 21 games. Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am
    • Serves as cleanup batter
Smith started at third base, batted cleanup and went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Smith filled in as the cleanup hitter after Adolis Garcia was scratched with a forearm issue. He extended a hit streak to five games (7-for-20) but has cooled off overall in May (.630 OPS) after a strong April (.927). Despite the downturn, Smith still gets plenty of opportunities with Josh Jung (wrist) unavailable. Rotowire.com Today, 5:49 am

    • Starts at third base
Alexander started at third base and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Tigers.

Advice: Alexander had one of the two productive run-producing outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Diamondbacks reclaimed a lead they lost in the top half of the frame. He started for the fourth time in the last eight games, and it was his first start at third base. After a spell as the regular fill-in for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) at shortstop, Alexander has taken a back seat to Kevin Newman. With recent news coming out that Perdomo is expected back in two weeks, Alexander could be moving down to the minors in early June. Rotowire.com Today, 4:23 am
    • Adds another steal Sunday
Mateo went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Mateo has a steal in each of the last two games, giving him seven thefts on the year. The infielder has gone 11-for-42 (.262) over 14 games in May, lifting his season slash line to .259/.299/.457 over 89 plate appearances. Sunday was the first time in four contests he didn't record an extra-base hit, though there typically isn't an abundance of power in his game. Mateo should continue to occupy a starting role at second base as long as he's hitting well. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:34 pm

    • Blasts first homer
Berti went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run Sunday against the White Sox.

Advice: Berti's first homer of the season came off White Sox starter Chris Flexen with two outs and two men on in the fourth. It was the first extra-base hit of the season for Berti, who is now hitting .277 after entering the contest batting .250 through 44 at-bats. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:05 pm

    • Reinstated, optioned to Triple-A
Peraza (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Advice: Peraza has been on the injured list since suffering a shoulder injury in February, but he began a rehab assignment May 7. Most recently, he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his only contest with Triple-A, where he will now remain for the time being. The organization will likely allow the 23-year-old to find his footing with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before ultimately elevating him to the major-league roster down the road. • Cubs expected to promote Luis Vazquez on Monday
Jorge Castillo of ESPN reports that the Cubs are planning to promote Luis Vazquez from Triple-A Iowa on Monday.

Advice: No word yet on what the corresponding move could be, or where exactly Vazquez will see his action on the Cubs’ infield, but we’ll know more on Monday. The 24-year-old has hit .270/.369/.409 with three homers, 11 RBI and one stolen base (in three attempts) over 38 games at Triple-A Iowa this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:00 pm

    • Set to join Cubs
Vazquez is expected to be called up from Triple-A Iowa ahead of Tuesday's series opener with Atlanta, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Vazquez appears to be set to make his major-league debut after producing a .262 average with three home runs, 11 RBI, 22 runs scored and a stolen base over 141 at-bats in 39 contests at Iowa this season. It's possible that 27-year-old will replace Nico Hoerner (hamstring) on the big-league roster if Hoerner is ultimately placed on the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:46 pm
