    • Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Reds sending Connor Phillips to Arizona for reset
Reds RHP prospect Connor Phillips has been reassigned to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: It’s been an extremely tough start to the year for Phillips, who was a top-100 prospect as recently as last year. The 23-year-old righty, who made five starts last year for Cincinnati, has struggled to a disastrous 10.11 ERA, 2.26 WHIP and 53/50 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (14 starts) this year for Triple-A Louisville. The complete erosion of his command is startling and he’s going to head to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League to focus on building back up from scratch. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
    • Gavin Williams (elbow) to make another rehab start
Gavin Williams (elbow) will make another minor league rehab start on Wednesday.

Advice: Williams got his pitch count up to 66 during his most recent rehab outing last Friday for Double-A Akron when he struck out four and allowed one run over five innings and now appears to be getting close to making his season debut. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect has been on the shelf since spring training recovering from a right elbow injury. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago
    • Zac Gallen (hamstring) decision coming this week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday.

Advice: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters they’ll make a decision on Gallen’s next step following his latest throwing session. The hope here for fantasy managers is that the 28-year-old ace will be ready to jump right back into Arizona’s starting rotation without needing a rehab assignment. There should be a decision on his status at some point later this week. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

    • Roansy Contreras to start Wednesday against A’s
Roansy Contreras will start on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Advice: It’s a favorable matchup for streaming purposes, but Contreras is too risky to roll the dice on, with the notable exception of extremely deep mixed leagues or AL-only formats. The 24-year-old former prospect was acquired last month from the Pirates in a small trade and has fared reasonably well in nine relief appearances for Los Angeles. Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters they’re hoping to get at least four or five innings out of Contreras on Wednesday afternoon. Rotoworld Today, 4:10 pm

    • On cusp of rehab assignment
Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Garcia (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment with the Astros' complex league affiliate this weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old threw a 32-pitch live bullpen session over the weekend and is just about ready for game action. Garcia will likely need to throw another bullpen session before being cleared for games, and it'll be a lengthy rehab assignment as he finishes up his recovery from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in May of 2023. • Set to start Wednesday
Contreras will start Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old was acquired from the Pirates in made and has worked out of the bullpen for his first nine appearances for the Halos. Contreras has pitched to a 3.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 13.2 innings with Anaheim, and manager Ron Washington said the club is hoping the right-hander can cover about four or five innings versus Oakland, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. • Recalled from Sacramento
The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Black was dispatched to Triple-A in May after allowing 14 earned runs in 14.1 innings through his first four MLB appearances. He has since performed even worse in the minors (11.93 ERA and 2.72 WHIP), but he will be relied upon nonetheless as the Giants attempt to work through a barrage of injuries to their starters. Raymond Burgos was optioned to Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 3:24 pm

    • Moved to 60-day IL
The Angels transferred Sandoval (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Sandoval was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Monday and is expected to miss at least a full calendar year. He'll trade places on the 60-day IL with Chase Silseth (elbow), who was activated and optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:54 pm
