He benefited from Thairo Estrada missing three of the previous four games with a thumb injury, resulting in Brett Wisely picking up starts at the keystone on all three occasions. Wisely and Estrada should serve as the Giants' primary middle infielders now that both are healthy, and Schmitt could be at risk of a demotion to Triple-A Sacramento once shortstop Nick Ahmed (wrist) makes his way back from the 10-day injured list.     Advice: McNeil would have played Tuesday had Trevor Williams not been scratched, but after he was replaced by a southpaw, McNeil again rode the pine. McNeil hasn’t actually been any worse against lefties (.246/.290/.323) than righties (.217/.299/.319) this year, but it probably is the case that Jose Iglesias is the better option versus southpaws.     McNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: The Mets have opposed left-handed starting pitchers in three straight games, and the lefty-hitting McNeil has been on the bench for each of those contests. McNeil hasn't been a strict platoon player for much of his tenure with the Mets, but manager Carlos Mendoza has chosen to limit the 32-year-old's exposure to southpaws while he's mustered a modest .275 wOBA over 69 plate appearances against lefties on the season. McNeil hasn't fared much better against right-handed pitching either (.281 wOBA in 155 plate appearances), but the Mets haven't offered any indication that he's at risk of losing out on starts in those matchups. Bliss has seen only one ball drop in thus far over his 15 plate appearances, but he's maintained a presence on the basepaths and set himself up for stolen-base opportunities by also drawing four walks in that span. The 31-year-old remains in a multi-game funk, however, as he's just 3-for-25 over the last seven contests, a span during which he's reached via a trio of singles, one walk and three hit-by-pitches.
