• Blanks Oakland on Saturday
Irvin (2-1) picked up the win Saturday, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the A's. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: For the second straight start, Irvin led the Orioles to a combined shutout. The southpaw retired the first 10 batters he faced, and Oakland failed to get a baserunner into scoring position until he'd left the mound. Irvin tossed 63 of 89 pitches for strikes as he extended his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings, and his impressive stretch may have come in the nick of time to save his rotation spot -- Kyle Bradish (elbow) is ready to come off the IL, and John Means (forearm) may not be far behind. Bradish lines up to take Irvin's spot next Wednesday at home against the Yankees, but Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reported prior to Saturday's game that Baltimore could shift to a six-man rotation in the short term. Irvin sports a 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB through 28.1 innings. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Fans nine in victory
Gray (3-1) picked up the win Saturday versus the Mets, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: The Mets plated four runs during a sloppy fifth innings by the Cardinals which included a Nolan Arenado error. Just one of the runs on Gray's ledgers was earned, however, and he was in total control outside of that frame, facing just three over the minimum. Gray tripled his season walk total with three free passes in this one, but with the nine punchouts he now has an excellent 32:4 K:BB over his first 23.1 innings with St. Louis. • Jesse Winker hits grand slam in victory over MIA
Jesse Winker hit a grand slam in the Nationals’ 11-4 victory over the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Winker continues his offensive resurgence, and his grand slam in the fifth inning extended Washington’s lead to 6-1. The 30-year-old is now slashing .291/.404/.465 over the first month of the season; a vast improvement on the offensive numbers he was posting with Seattle and Milwaukee over the last two years. It’s a small sample, but there’s no denying what Winker has done is encouraging. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Shut down after setback with elbow
Brash has been shut down after having a setback with his right elbow while playing catch Friday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Advice: Brash is headed to Dallas to receive an opinion from Dr. Keith Meister on his injured elbow. It sounds like the setback is a significant one, with Mariners general manager Justin Hollander saying the team is "concerned." Brash had been closing in on a rehab assignment, but his status in the short- and long-term is very much up in the air. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Edward Cabrera struggles late in loss to Nationals
Edward Cabrera was charged for six runs — five earned — in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Nationals on Saturday.

Advice: Cabrera was pitching well over the first four frames, but the fifth was a disaster that saw him give up a grand slam to Jesse Winker. He walked two and struck out four in a start that sees his ERA balloon to 5.28. Cabrera will try and bounce back with a home start against the Rockies on Thursday. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Hammered by O's
Sears (1-2) took the loss Saturday as the A's were dropped 7-0 by the Orioles, surrendering seven runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The lefty looked great the first time through the order, retiring the first nine batters he faced, but Baltimore jumped on Sears for three runs in the fourth inning and back-to-back solo shots by Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mountcastle in the fifth, before Gunnar Henderson chased him from the game in the seventh with a two-run blast. Sears did set a new season high in strikeouts and generated 33 called or swinging strikes among his 98 pitches, but he was made to pay when he missed his spots in the strike zone. He'll carry a 4.64 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB through 33 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Marlins. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Mitchell Parker gives up one over four vs. Marlins
Mitchell Parker allowed one run over four innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Marlins.

Advice: It’s disappointing that Parker wasn’t able to go deeper in this one, as the southpaw was given plenty of run support and would have easily qualified for the win. It was another effective outing for the 24-year-old, however, and he’s now registered an ERA of 1.69 since being promoted to the Washington rotation. He’ll face Texas on Thursday. • Matt Brash (elbow) shut down from throwing again
Mariners’ right-hander Matt Brash (elbow) has been shut down from throwing again and will visit Dr. Keith Meister.

Advice: Uh oh. Brash had been making progress in his recovery from inflammation in his elbow, but he attempted to play catch on Friday and told the training staff that every throw felt terrible. You don’t want to jump to any conclusions, but it sounds like surgery could be in the cards for the 25-year-old hurler in the near future. The Mariners should have an update on his status after that visit. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
