    Advice: As expected, Elder was returned to the minors after he was designated as Atlanta's 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.     Perez (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday in Atlanta, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

    Advice: The Pirates will push back Jared Jones' next turn through the rotation in order to make room for Perez, whose last outing before he landed on the IL in late May coincidentally came against Atlanta. Perez needed just one rehab start to convince the Pirates he was ready to rejoin the big club, as he allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings while tossing 65 pitches for Triple-A Indianapolis last weekend.     Marquez (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Marquez made his most recent rehab outing Saturday with High-A Spokane and threw 58 pitches while recording four scoreless frames.   • Matt Manning working on delivery at Triple-A
    Matt Manning was not called up when the Tigers needed a starter this week because he’s working on tweaking his delivery at Triple-A Toledo.

    Advice: “Matty is still working on delivery,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “He’s still working on execution. There are plenty of things that we still want him to do.” One of those things is likely getting left-handed hitters out. Between MLB and Triple-A action combined, left-handed hitters are hitting .304 off Manning with a .893 OPS. The 26-year-old has a 4.88 ERA with 12 walks and 23 strikeouts across 27⅔ innings in five appearances for the Tigers this season and a 5.68 ERA with 13 walks and 42 strikeouts across 38 innings in eight games for the Mud Hens. “We also want the guys down in Triple-A to not assume, as well,” said Hinch. “You gotta give opportunity to guys that you feel good about. It’s not just one person because we’re used to it. He’s still got to earn his way like everybody else.” It sounds like Manning still has work to do before he earns another chance.     Advice: Wesneski got off to a solid start, striking out four of the first six batters he faced before surrendering back-to-back home runs to Michael Conforto and David Villar in the second. The right-hander would go 1-2-3 through the next two innings before being relieved by Drew Smyly to open the fifth, though the former would still finish with his second-highest strikeout total of the season.     Nelson (5-6) was charged with the loss against Minnesota on Wednesday, allowing six runs on 10 hits over 3.2 innings while striking out three.

    Advice: After pitching a scoreless first inning, Nelson went on to get tagged for runs in each of the next three frames before being relieved by Scott McGough with two outs in the fourth. The second inning was especially disastrous for the 26 year old when he failed to retire either of the first four batters he faced and also beaned Byron Buxton and Willi Castro with pitches. Nelson has now allowed at least five runs in two of his last four starts, while Wednesday marked the first time he's given up 10 or more hits since May 17 against Detroit.     Woods Richardson (3-1) picked up the win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

    Advice: Woods Richardson allowed just one run over the first five innings but had to be relieved by Josh Staumont with one out in the sixth after allowing two of the first three batters to reach. It marked the right-hander's first win since May 28 against the Royals, though he's now walked multiple batters in three consecutive outings, and in five of his last six overall.     Ohtani went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox while also drawing two walks.

    Advice: For the second game in a row, Ohtani crushed a leadoff home run to open the contest, giving the superstar slugger 25 on the season and 11 in the month of June. He's now homered in five of his last six games and has posted at least one RBI in 10 straight, raising his average to .322 on the campaign, which leads the major leagues. The right-handed veteran would allow just one more hit over his final three frames, but the damage had already been done as the White Sox's offense failed to provide any run support. Fedde has now gone at least six innings in four consecutive starts and hasn't walked more than one batter in any of his six outings this month.
