• Austin Riley (side) misses 10th consecutive game
Austin Riley (side) remained out of the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: Riley remained out of Atlanta’s lineup for the 10th consecutive contest on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field recovering from an intercostal strain. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart hasn’t played since May 12. The positive news here is that he was able to resume hitting on Wednesday without any issues. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to return for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:48 pm

  • Ha-Seong Kim steals two bags against Reds
Ha-Seong Kim stole two bases while going 1-for-3 with a walk against the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: Kim was also thrown out stealing for the second time this season, but the pair of thefts do bring his season total to 13. That’s a solid number, obviously, but his .216/.335/.369 slash has left a lot to be desired. Despite those poor numbers he does have six homers and 22 RBI, so we’ll call Kim’s 2024 campaign a mixed bag. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:32 pm

  • Edmundo Sosa has three hits in win over Rangers
Edmundo Sosa went 3-for-4 in a win Thursday over the Rangers.

Advice: Sosa hasn’t gotten much attention in 2024, but it’s probably time for that to change. The three-hit afternoon pushes the 28-year-old’s average up to .323, and he’s slugging .548 to show he’s not just dinking-and-dunking the baseball. It’s only a sample of 58 at-bats, but he’s likely earned more playing time based on what he’s done so far in 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:20 pm

  • Not starting Thursday
Turner isn't in Toronto's lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Turner will get a breather Thursday after reaching base three times during Wednesday's win over the White Sox. Daniel Vogelbach will fill in as the Jays' DH and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:05 pm

  • Matt Chapman homers, drives in three in victory
Matt Chapman hit a three-run homer Thursday to help the Giants to a win over the Pirates.

Advice: Chapman remains hot, and his three-run blast off Hunter Stratton got San Francisco back in the game; turning a 6-2 deficit into a 6-5 game. The 31-year-old has homered eight times, and three of those blasts have come in his last three games. Chapman has been streaky for the majority of his career, and it appears he’s on the right side of things right now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:44 pm
  • Losing out on playing time
Nevin is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Nevin seems to have lost hold of an everyday role in the Oakland outfield; he's now been on the bench in five consecutive matchups versus right-handed pitching. The 26-year-old should at least continue to see regular starts against left-handed pitching as a platoon mate for the lefty-hitting Seth Brown. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:02 am

  • Moving back to bench role
Madrigal is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Madrigal had started at second base or third base in seven of the past eight games, but his opportunities to pick up playing time in the infield are likely to be more limited moving forward after shortstop Dansby Swanson and second baseman Nico Hoerner both recently returned from injuries. The 27-year-old hasn't done much with the opportunities he's received with the Cubs this season, slashing .213/.276/.250 with no home runs and one stolen base across 87 plate appearances. • Removed from 40-man roster
The Athletics designated Diaz for assignment Thursday.

Advice: At multiple points in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Diaz looked to bea mainstay in Oakland's lineup, but he failed to make the Opening Day roster coming out of spring training and struggled to get going at a hitter-friendly environment at Triple-A Las Vegas, slashing just .204/.288/.327 over 111 plate appearances. He's still just 23 years old, so Diaz could draw interest on waivers from a team that thinks it might be able to help him tap back into the promise he displayed earlier in his career. • A’s designate Jordan Diaz for assignment
A’s designated INF Jordan Diaz for assignment

Advice: Diaz played in 90 games for Oakland in 2023 but did not make the club out of spring and was hitting just .204/.288/.327 in 29 games in Triple-A with two home runs. He doesn’t play strong enough defense at any position, so he will always need to hit above league average in order to crack an MLB roster. Considering he’s only 23 years old, he figures to get a shot with another club but he needs to improve his defense and conditioning if he is to become an MLB regular. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:40 am
