    • Homer, steal in win
Gelof went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Gelof's bat is coming around -- he's 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and three doubles during his six-game hitting streak. Prior to the streak, he went just 7-for-51 (.137) across his first 14 games back from an oblique injury. Gelof is slashing just .193/.254/.331 on the year, adding five homers, six steals, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored over 44 contests, but he'll get every chance to continue starting at second base for a team that has struggled to be competitive. • Zack Gelof slugs home run to lead A’s to victory
Zack Gelof went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a stolen base in the Athletics’ 2-1 win over the Mariners in Wednesday.

Advice: Gelof had a big day at the plate in the A’s victory over the Mariners on Wednesday. He got the scoring started with a solo homer in the third inning, then singled and stole second base in the fifth. The 24-year-old second baseman is coming around at the dish, riding a modest six-game hitting streak. He’s slashing .193/.254/.331 with five homers and six steals across 182 plate appearances. • Anthony Volpe collects three hits in win Wednesday
Anthony Volpe went 3-for-5 with a triple and a pair of runs scored as the Yankees topped the Twins on Wednesday evening in New York.

Advice: Volpe led off the home half of the first inning with a single and came around to score the game’s first run on a ground ball off the bat of Aaron Judge. He also singled in the fifth inning and scored on Aaron Judge’s three-run triple. Volpe then smacked a three-bagger of his own in the eighth inning, but the Bombers couldn’t cash him in. He’s having an outstanding season atop the Yankees’ lineup — hitting .290/.355/.448 with six homers, 25 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:46 pm

    • Anthony Volpe extends on-base streak to 30 games
Anthony Volpe singled on Tuesday in the Yankees’ win over the Twins, extending his on-base streak to 30 consecutive games.

Advice: Volpe extended his on-base streak, which is tied with teammate Aaron Judge for the longest in baseball this season, by slicing a third-inning single into shallow right field before racing around the bases to score on Judge’s two-run double later in the frame. • Masataka Yoshida starting rehab assignment this weekend
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Tuesday that Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

Advice: Yoshida has been on the shelf since the start of May due to a left thumb strain, but managed to avoid surgery. The 30-year-old is going to need some time to get back up to speed in the minors before returning to Boston’s lineup mix at designated hitter. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:36 pm

    • Hitting on field, fields grounders
Drury (hamstring) will hit on the field and take grounders Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Drury will probably need to run the bases before being cleared for a rehab assignment. It's not clear when that might occur, but he's progressing steadily. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since early May with a left hamstring strain. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:36 pm

    • Brandon Drury (hamstring) works out on field
Brandon Drury hit and took grounders on the field prior to Monday’s game.

Advice: Drury has been out for nearly four weeks due to a hamstring strain, but it sounds like a return date is within site. He’ll probably require a couple of minor league games before being activated. Rotoworld Monday, 3:22 pm

    • Eyeing return next week
Manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday that Alvarez (thumb) won't join the Mets for their two-game series in London with the Phillies this weekend, but the catcher could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list June 11 for the start of the club's homestand, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: On the shelf since April 20 with a fractured left thumb that eventually required surgery, Alvarez is closing in on a return after he initiated a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton this past weekend. He made three starts at catcher with Binghamton and went 2-for-8 with a home run and two walks, but the Mets want him to pick up more reps in the minors before he comes off the IL. Alvarez is likely to either stick around at Binghamton or shift his assignment to Triple-A Syracuse in the coming days, and if he escapes without any setbacks, he should settle back in as the Mets' primary backstop beginning next week. • Francisco Alvarez (thumb) won’t return this week
The Mets have decided against activating Francisco Alvarez in time for this weekend’s series in London.

Advice: Alvarez has thus far played in three rehab games as he returns from a torn thumb ligament, going 2-for-8 with a homer. The Mets believe it makes more sense for him to stay in the U.S. and continue his rehab than to go to London for two games in five days. If all goes well, Alvarez could be activated next Tuesday.
