    • On bench Tuesday
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The left-handed Carpenter will avoid a matchup with southpaw Ryan Weathers on Tuesday, as Wenceel Perez, Matt Vierling and Mark Canha will start across the outfield. Carpenter has hit safely in five straight games, batting 7-for-18 (.389) with two homers and five runs scored. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:05 pm
    • Goes deep twice in victory
Carpenter went 2-for-5 with two homers and three total RBI against Houston in an 8-2 win Saturday.

Advice: Carpenter capped a seven-run second inning for Detroit with a two-run shot to right field and added a solo homer in the fourth. The pair of long balls snapped an 18-game homerless stretch for the outfielder, who belted 20 home runs in his first full MLB season last year. Saturday's multi-homer game was the third of Carpenter's career. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:24 pm
    • Kerry Carpenter homers twice as Tigers rout Astros
Kerry Carpenter blasted a pair of home runs on Saturday as the Tigers routed the Astros 8-2 at Comerica Park.

Advice: Carpenter put the exclamation point on a seven-run second inning with a 350-foot (106.5 mph EV) two-run blast that chased Astros’ starter Cristian Javier. He also added a 384-foot (102.6 mph EV) solo shot off of Hunter Brown in the fourth inning that extended the Tigers’ lead to 8-2. It’s the third multi-homer game of Carpenter’s young career. The 26-year-old slugger finished the evening 2-for-5 is now hitting .275/.333/.523 with five homers and 18 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:53 pm
    • Masataka Yoshida (thumb) will not need surgery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Masataka Yoshida will not require surgery on his injured left thumb.

Advice: He’s still going to be shut down for a couple of weeks before he starts swinging a bat again, but overall this is encouraging news for the Red Sox and for fantasy managers. Yoshida has been shelved since the beginning of May. He has hit .275/.348/.388 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over 89 plate appearances in 24 games on the season. • Won't need surgery
Yoshida got a third opinion on his left thumb and said Friday that the injury wouldn't require surgery, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida is battling a strained left thumb and, up until this point, surgery was not off the table. After seeing his third specialist, it's been decided that he'll be able to go straight into rehab without it. Manager Alex Cora said it will still be weeks until Yoshida can resume swinging a bat, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:37 pm

    • Not starting Friday
Carpenter is not in the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Astros.

Advice: He'll start the night in the dugout as the Tigers take on left-hander Framber Valdez. Carpenter is slashing .269/.330/.471 with three homers and 15 RBI in 36 games this season, and he's seen only 11 plate appearances against southpaws so far. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:50 am
    • Doubles twice, scores in loss
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Carpenter continued his solid play this season, as he's now batting .269 with an .801 OPS. He's collected eight doubles so far but only three home runs across 36 games. After breaking out for 20 long balls last year, Carpenter could dial up the power soon, which would only further enhance his fantasy value. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:28 pm
    • Still experiencing thumb soreness
Yoshida is still experiencing discomfort in his left thumb and will be examined by a specialist Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida could receive additional opinions, noting Wednesday that he's been told he's dealing with "a rare injury" and is still figuring out the best way to proceed with his recovery. He's been out for all of May with the injury, and a timetable for his return from the 10-day injured list remains up in the air. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:49 pm
