  • Remains shut down
    Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that Scherzer (back) will remain shut down from throwing for the next few days due to a right thumb and forearm issue, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

    Advice: Scherzer has been on the 15-day injured list all season while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, but it's his pitching arm that has presented complications for him coming out of his first rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock back on April 24. Young said that Scherzer won't resume ramping up again until the tightness and discomfort in his arm completely subsides, so the veteran right-hander still looks to be multiple weeks away from being ready to return from the IL.   • Dealing with severe ankle sprain
    Hernaiz, who was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Wednesday, has been diagnosed with a severe left ankle sprain and will visit with a foot specialist, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Hernaiz was injured during Tuesday's 15-8 loss to the Rangers when he stepped awkwardly on first base and was subsequently placed on the IL. More should be known about a potential timetable for the rookie infielder following his exam, but Hernaiz looks as though he could be sidelined for weeks, if not months.     The Marlins placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder impingement.

    Advice: Cabrera was removed after two innings during his start in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers with what was referred to as right biceps discomfort, but it's officially a shoulder impingement that will force him to the IL. It's the same injury that kept him out for the first few weeks of the season. Cabrera will be eligible to return from the IL later this month, but there's currently no timetable for the righty.     Advice: Williams was carving up the Orioles' lineup Tuesday, striking out eight of the first 15 batters he faced while allowing only one baserunner -- a single from Adley Rutschman. Williams likely could have remained in the game longer; however, the Nationals seem determined to keep him limited to roughly 80 pitches per start this season.     Advice: Coming off a 10-strikeout performance in a tough-luck loss during his last start, Sandoval completely silenced the Pirates' bats Tuesday while continuing to strike out batters at a notable clip. Following his dominant outing, he still sits at a 4.85 ERA and 1.49 WHIP through eight starts, but he has enough positive momentum to warrant consideration from fantasy managers during his next start Sunday versus Kansas City.     According to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, Dane Dunning is headed to the injured list with a shoulder issue.

    Priester (0-3) was hit with the loss Tuesday versus the Angels, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out one batter in 4.2 innings.

    Advice: Priester was able to get through the first three innings of Tuesday's game without much trouble, but things took a turn in the fourth when he allowed a three-run homer to Kevin Pillar. A throwing error from Priester also extended the fifth inning, during which two more unearned runs came across to score. It was an all-around forgettable performance for the 23-year-old, who now holds a 3.86 ERA through four starts and will remain in search of his first win next week in Milwaukee.
