Merrifield went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Merrifield has two steals over his last six contests, but he's gone just 4-for-23 at the plate over his last 11 games. The infielder has recorded 20-plus steals five times in his first eight major-league campaigns, but his smaller role and lackluster ability to get on base in 2024 has put a damper on his speed contributions. He's slashing .190/.277/.282 with eight steals, three home runs, 10 RBI and 19 runs scored over 160 plate appearances this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:37 pm

    • Michael Wacha strikes out eight Rays in win
Michael Wacha allowed just one run across six frames on Wednesday in the Royals’ 4-2 win over the Rays. He struck out eight, walked three, and gave up just three hits en route to a victory.

Advice: The eight punchouts matched a season-high for Wacha. He’s gone eight straight starts allowing two or fewer earned runs with a stint on the injured list in-between. He did his usual dance of cutters and changeups en route to this fantastic start. While not flashy, Wacha remains incredibly steady. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:15 pm
    • Jorge Soler doubles, scores against former team
Jorge Soler went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Wednesday against the Braves.

Advice: Soler seems to enjoy hitting lead-off. He’s hit safely in five straight games with six extra-base hits over that span since being put back atop the order. He’s very slowly gotten his feet wet after a miserable start to the season and we know how hot he can get once he finds his groove. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:00 pm

    • Mitch Garver (wrist) held out again Wednesday
Mitch Garver (wrist) was held out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for the second consecutive night on Wednesday.

Advice: Garver was pulled from Sunday’s game with a right wrist contusion after being hit by a pitch and then sat out Tuesday’s contest as well. There’s no indication that he’s dealing with any structural damage or that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, so it sounds like the M’s will continue to take things day-to-day. • Still out of lineup Wednesday
Garver (wrist) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: Garver will sit for a second straight game after he was struck in the right wrist by a pitch in Sunday's game against the Twins. Jorge Polanco will serve as the designated hitter Wednesday and bat sixth against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:10 pm

    • On bench again
Hamilton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Hamilton is absent from the starting nine for the third time in the last four games, with Wednesday's contest being the first against a left-handed pitcher. Romy Gonzalez will play second base and Ceddanne Rafaela will play shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:10 pm

    • Three hits in loss
Melendez went 3-for-3 with a double in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Melendez accounted for half of the Royals' hits in the loss. This was his second multi-hit effort in the last three games, but he went just 3-for-19 over a seven-game stretch prior to his recent rebound. The outfielder continues to struggle overall with a .191/.258/.366 slash line, eight home runs, 24 RBI, 21 runs scored and two stolen bases through 256 plate appearances in a strong-side platoon role. • Goes yard Tuesday
Soler went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Atlanta.

Advice: Soler hit .284 in June, but he had just three homers over 26 contests for the month. He's off to a decent start in July, though his power remains down overall. The designated hitter is slashing .229/.309/.406 with 10 homers, 32 RBI, 42 runs scored, 17 doubles and no stolen bases through 73 games this season. His .177 ISO is the lowest it's been since the 2017 campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:44 am

    • Traded to Milwaukee
The Brewers acquired Civale from the Rays on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Civale has an ERA north of 5.00 through 17 starts this season, but his xFIP is almost a full run lower at 4.09, and he should help stabilize the rotation for the division-leading Brewers. Shane Baz was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and appears a likely candidate to replace Civale in the Tampa Bay rotation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 am
