    • George Kirby flummoxes Rays over six frames in win
      George Kirby struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rays.

      Advice: Kirby coughed up an early run-scoring single to Yandy Díaz, but managed to keep Tampa Bay’s lineup quiet from the third inning onwards to net his seventh win of the season. He induced 13 swinging strikes, including six on his four-seam fastball, and finished with a pedestrian 28 percent CSW. Of course, he also didn’t hand out a free pass in this one. It wasn’t his most dominant effort of the season, but was more than enough to lead Seattle to a much-needed win. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to May 29. He’ll carry a strong 3.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96/9 K/BB ratio across 99 1/3 innings (17 starts) into a tough come outing on Wednesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 1:21 pm
       
    • Sharp in seventh win
      Kirby (7-5) allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Rays.

      Advice: Kirby had his way with the Rays on Wednesday as he managed to get through six innings for his third win in his last five starts. Kirby has been on a tear, allowing two runs or less in six consecutive starts, posting a 1.70 ERA with three walks and 40 strikeouts in that span. He has the third best ERA in MLB since May and he'll look to keep it going in a tough matchup vs the Orioles next week. Rotowire.com Today, 12:13 pm
       
    • Notches sixth win
      Gausman (6-6) picked up the win Tuesday in a 9-4 victory over the Red Sox, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: A Vladimir Guerrero error let Gausman squeak out his seventh quality start of the season, but the rest of the damage off the right-hander came on a Rafael Devers solo shot in the second inning and a two-run blast over the Green Monster by Tyler O'Neill in the sixth. Gausman has been taken deep eight times in his last five outings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 4.45 ERA despite a 1.11 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB through 32.1 innings.       Sewald allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Twins.

      Advice: Sewald needed 17 pitches (nine strikes) to close out this contest, earning his 10th save in as many chances this year. He's on a 13.2-inning scoreless streak -- the only run he's allowed this year came in his season debut after he started the year on the injured list.     • Paul Sewald notches 10th save against Twins
      Paul Sewald recorded his 10th save with a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Twins.

      Advice: Sewald gave up a two-out double to Byron Buxton, putting the tying run on base. Ryan Jeffers followed with a stinging liner to left, but it was hit right to Lourdes Gurriel Jr., ending the game.     • Gausman has quality start against Red Sox
      Kevin Gausman allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

      Advice: Gausman struck out five and walked one on the day but did allow two home runs, which accounted for all but one of the runs scored against him. The 33-year-old’s fastball averaged 94 mph on the day, which is up from his season average and he got seven whiffs on 24 swings on that pitch. However, he was only able to get 10 whiffs overall on the day for a 20 percent whiff rate and 25 percent CSW. He had just a 38 percent zone rate on the splitter, and he’s been struggling to get whiffs on that pitch over the last few starts.       Jansen (3-1) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning Monday. He struck out one and earned a win over Toronto.

      Advice: Jansen worked a quick ninth inning, needing only 10 pitches to keep the game tied 6-6. Boston won the game in the bottom of the frame and gave him his second win of the month.       McKenzie tossed three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out six batters in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: McKenzie was challenged early versus Toronto, giving up a two-run home run to Vladimir Guerrero in the top of the first inning. He later gave up a leadoff homer to Spencer Horwitz in the third, which was ultimately his final inning on the mound. McKenzie failed to pitch past the third inning for the second consecutive start Sunday, throwing just 41 of his 74 total pitches for strikes, while the four walks matched his total from his loss Tuesday versus Seattle. He's now converted 15 of his 16 save chances this season, including 11 straight. Jansen has produced a 2.29 ERA since his last blown save April 16, lowering his season mark to 2.39.
