    • Mets claim speedster Duke Ellis off waivers
Mets claimed OF Duke Ellis off waivers from the White Sox.

Advice: Ellis will head to Triple-A Syracuse as extra organizational outfield depth for New York after being scooped up off waivers on Friday. The 26-year-old speedster stole four bases in eight games during a brief stint with the White Sox earlier this month. He has 34 thefts across 41 games this season in the upper minors. • Joey Loperfido doubles twice in Astros’ win
Joey Loperfido went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI as the Astros topped the Orioles 14-11 on Friday.

Advice: That’s a pretty good return to the majors. Both of Loperfido’s doubles actually came in the same inning, as the Astros came through with nine runs in the sixth. The Orioles actually responded with seven runs in the eighth, but it wasn’t quite enough in this one. Loperfido is batting .372/.413/,512 in 16 games as a major leaguer, and since the Astros seem posted to play him regularly against right-handers, he’s worth rostering in all formats at the moment. • Bryan Abreu picks up first save of 2024
Bryan Abreu protected a three-run lead against the Astros for his first save Friday.

Advice: Josh Hader, Ryan Pressly and Abreu all worked the previous two days, but the youngest of the trio was the only one available tonight, apparently. Abreu got the job done and finally picked up his first save in the process. He leads the AL with 38 appearances this season, and his ERA is down to 2.58 after a rough start. Still. because of the lack of saves, he’ll make less than a quarter of what he’s worth in arbitration again next year. Rotoworld Today, 12:08 am

    • Takes second loss
Schreiber (3-2) allowed three runs on three hits over one-third of an inning to take the loss versus the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Schreiber was on the hook for three of the five runs the Rangers scored in the sixth inning. After opening June with four scoreless innings, Schreiber's struggles have returned -- he's given up eight runs (six earned) over his last four appearances, taking two blown saves in that span. Friday's outing pushed his ERA up to 4.15 with a 1.48 WHIP and 20:11 K:BB over 30.1 innings. While he has a save and 16 holds to his name this year, he could see a move to a low-leverage role if he continues to falter. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:42 pm
    • Yields five runs
Rea allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while failing to record a strikeout over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Friday.

Advice: This was the first time all year Rea's failed to log a strikeout, and it's just the third time in 15 appearances (13 starts) he's been on the hook for five runs. The right-hander's poor outing has him at a 3.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 54:26 K:BB through 82 innings. Rea is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:36 pm
    • Grabs five-out save
De Los Santos allowed a hit and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Not often part of the high-leverage mix, De Los Santos got a chance to protect a three-run lead in the eighth inning. He delivered and also pitched the ninth to earn his first save since 2022, when he was with the Guardians. The right-hander has put together an okay season with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB over 31.2 innings, and he's added seven holds. His big problem has been the long ball -- De Los Santos has yielded nine home runs after giving up a total of seven homers across his previous two campaigns. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:19 pm
    • Goes deep again Friday
Ohtani went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

Advice: Ohtani accounted for four of the seven baserunners the Dodgers had in this contest, though the team's No. 2-through-5 hitters went a combined 0-for-16. Ohtani has logged multiple hits in five of his last six games, and he's swatted five homers with 11 RBI in that span. The superstar is up to a .322/.398/.628 slash line with 22 long balls, 55 RBI, 60 runs scored and 16 stolen bases on 18 attempts through 75 games this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:03 pm

    • Shows well in return to majors
Knack allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Friday.

Advice: Knack put in a strong effort, but the Dodgers' offense was unusually quiet. He left the game with a 2-0 lead, only for Ryan Yarbrough to give it back in the sixth inning. Knack has a 2.10 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB over 25.2 innings across five starts in the majors this season. With both Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) and Walker Buehler (hip) landing on the injured list in the last week, Knack has a chance to gain some momentum in the Dodgers' rotation while Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) and Dustin May (elbow) are likely to be rehabbing into July. However, with off-days Sunday, Thursday and Monday, July 1, the Dodgers can get by with a four-man rotation for the rest of the month, so it's unclear if Knack will get the opportunity it looks like he's ready for. • Jeimer Candelario homers twice to lead Reds
Jeimer Candelario launched a pair of solo homers in leading the Reds to a 5-2 win over the Red Sox on Friday.

Advice: Remember when Candelario was having a bad season? He’s hit eight homers, knocked in 17 runs and even stolen three bases this month to push his season line up to .255/.310/.506. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:41 pm
