    • Continues stellar stretch
Mikolas (5-6) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on four hits against the Cubs. He struck out five.

Advice: Mikolas held the Cubs scoreless through six, then was pulled following a one-out double by Ian Happ in the seventh. Happ later came around to score, but the Cardinals held the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way to secure the fifth win of the season for Mikolas. It was the second straight start Mikolas entered the seventh having allowed zero runs and the fifth straight quality start for Mikolas who holds a 2.58 ERA and 0.73 WHIP over 31.1 innings during that stretch. The 35-year-old veteran will look to continue to turn back the clock in his next start, currently slated to take place next weekend when the Giants make their way to St. Louis. • Roughed up in loss
Lively (6-3) took the loss Sunday against Toronto, yielding four earned runs on six hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Lively pitched for the first time in eight days after leaving his most recent start with tightness after 65 pitches. He surrendered a two-run home run to Ernie Clement in the second inning, his first home run allowed since May 26. The four earned runs are a season-worst for the 32-year-old, who had notched wins in each of his previous five starts. Despite Sunday's rough outing, Lively has pitched well for Cleveland this season, logging a 3.02 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and a 52:18 K:BB across 59.2 innings pitched. He is currently scheduled for a rematch against Toronto next weekend. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Dane Dunning fans eight, gets lifted in fifth
Dane Dunning allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings and struck out eight before being lifted from his start against the Mariners on Sunday.

Advice: Dunning’s K rate this year has been quite encouraging — he’s fanned 67 in 59 innings — but the extra homers and extra walks he’s given up have made him a far less effective pitcher than he was last year. If he remains in the rotation and has more luck with homers, he still might be a factor in mixed leagues after the break. However, if all goes as the Rangers hope and they get to add Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom to the rotation, Dunning could finish the year in the pen. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Tyler Locklear hits second homer versus Rangers
Tyler Locklear hit his second MLB homer Sunday off the Rangers’ José LeClerc.

Advice: Ty France’s return is just around the corner, but Locklear is making a case to stick around afterwards as a platoon DH, even if his 12/1 K/BB in 29 plate appearances is hideous. After all, he’s now tied for third on the Mariners with his two homers. Not truly, but you believed it for a second, didn’t you? Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
    • Leody Taveras goes 0-for-3 in loss to Mariners
Leody Taveras went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Sunday, leaving him 2-for-39 this month.

Advice: Taveras was a league-average hitter through two months, but this slump has him all of the way down to .211/.281/.322. At this rate, the Rangers might have to think about adding another outfielder prior to the trade deadline. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Cubs designate José Cuas for assignment on Sunday
Cubs designated RHP José Cuas for assignment.

Advice: The Cubs needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Ethan Roberts on Sunday and unfortunately, Cuas drew the short straw this time around. The 29-year-old hurler has made nine appearances at the big-league level this season, posting a 7.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 14/6 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings. He could pique another team’s interest on waivers. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago

    • Miguel Vargas expected to join Dodgers in Colorado
Miguel Vargas is expected to join the Dodgers in Colorado on Monday with Mookie Betts (hand) landing on the injured list.

Advice: Vargas was just optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday, but he’ll head right back with Betts heading to the injured list. Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts said that Miguel Rojas and Enrique Hernandez are likely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Betts sidelined, but that Vargas will fill a role on the team’s bench. If he gets a chance at starts to hit though, it’s going to be hard for Roberts to keep Vargas’ bat out of the lineup. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

    • Designated for assignment
Cuas was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cuas will now be placed on waivers and if he goes unclaimed, he'll likely remain with Triple-A Iowa. The right-hander has struggled to a 6.35 ERA over 11.1 innings in 10 appearances in the minors and he'll have to right the ship before earning another shot on the 40-man roster. • Shohei Ohtani homers twice in Dodgers’ win
Shohei Ohtani launched his 18th and 19th homers of the year Sunday off the Royals’ Brady Singer in a 3-0 win.

Advice: The Dodgers’ other run came on the second of back-to-back homers from Freddie Freeman in the sixth. Ohtani’s first homer today was crushed 451 feet to center. Ohtani had been slumping some of late, having come in at .216/.310/.412 in June. He’s still fifth in the majors in OPS (.976), sixth in average (.309), fourth in homers and tied for fifth in runs scored (53). Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
