• Allows five runs Sunday
Sandoval did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Astros, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Sandoval started out with two scoreless frames before the Astros manufactured three runs in the third on two walks and four hits. He then gave up a run-scoring double from Jose Abreu in the sixth before exiting the game for good. Abreu would end up scoring that inning as well. Sandoval just missed out on a third straight start of reaching six innings and the eight hits given up were his most since he allowed 11 on May 12. Walks also continue to be an issue for the left-hander, as he's allowed at least three walks in four of his last five starts. Sandoval now owns a disappointing 5.23 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 75:31 K:BB in 72.1 innings this year and lines up to take the mound again versus the Giants over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 8:53 am
  • Works four frames in rehab start
Silseth (elbow) struck out seven over four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and no walks in his second rehab start Thursday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Silseth has now turned in seven scoreless frames over his first two rehab outings in Arizona. Though Silseth has yet to walk a batter in either start, he hasn't exhibited pristine control, as he's uncorked two wild pitches and has hit two batters between those contests. More importantly, however, Silseth hasn't experienced any setbacks with his right elbow and has continued to increase his workload. He built up to 56 pitches Thursday and could reach the 70-pitch mark in his third rehab start, which will likely come Tuesday or Wednesday with a yet-to-be-determined affiliate. After he completes his next rehab start, Silseth could be cleared to return from the 60-day injured list and slot back into the Angels rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 8:10 am

  • Struggles continue against Angels
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 9-7 loss to the Angels, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three over five innings.

Advice: Verlander had another pedestrian outing against one of the weaker lineups in baseball. The positives were that he didn't allow a home run or walk a batter, though he did give up seven hits for a second straight start and isn't missing many bats, evidenced by his 2.9 swinging strike percentage Sunday. Verlander has just seven strikeouts over his last 10 innings, and this is after coming off of back-to-back nine strikeout performances to end May. The 41-year-old will take a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 51:17 K:BB (57 innings) into his next start against the Tigers over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 8:02 am
  • Moving into rotation Tuesday
Suarez is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Advice: Suarez made 58 starts for the Angels over the past five seasons, but after losing out in a battle for a rotation spot in spring training, he's been working exclusively as a reliever in 2024 and has posted a 6.54 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 34:20 K:BB in 31.2 innings. He won't be moving into the rotation on merit, but he'll nonetheless slot into the starting spot that had been previously occupied by the struggling Reid Detmers, who was recently demoted to Triple-A Salt Lake. Even if Suarez acquits himself well in a starting role Tuesday, he could be headed back to the bullpen immediately thereafter with Chase Silseth (elbow) nearing a return from the 60-day injured list. • Escapes London with no-decision
Quintana came away with a no-decision in Sunday's win over the Phillies, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out one.

Advice: The veteran southpaw was headed for his sixth loss of the season when he got the hook after 69 pitches (41 strikes), but a late rally from the Mets got him off the hook. Quintana's only win of 2024 came back on April 11 -- since then, he's stumbled to a 5.86 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB over 10 starts (50.2 innings). He'll try to turn things around in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Padres. Rotowire.com Today, 7:36 am
  • Hit hard in loss
Mazur (0-1) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings.

Advice: Mazur was hit hard in just his second MLB start. The Diamondbacks scratched a run against him in the first but did most of their damage in the second when they piled on six runs, which was capped off by a two-run blast by Jake McCarthy. Mazur was able to pitch a clean third but was lifted after allowing a leadoff walk in the fourth and that runner would eventually come around to score. Mazur is known for his elite command of the strike zone but has now walked seven batters over his first nine big league innings and is showing some early jitters. He'll look to turn things around in a road matchup against the Mets over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 7:13 am

  • Adam Mazur obliterated in loss to Diamondbacks
Adam Mazur was obliterated in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon, surrendering eight runs on eight hits in his three-plus innings of work.

Advice: Mazur walked three batters while striking out two in the ballgame. The Diamondbacks scratched out a run against him in the opening inning, then piled on with six in the second — capped off by a two-run blast off the bat of Jake McCarthy. Mazur settled in to work a scoreless third inning, but was lifted after allowing a leadoff walk in the fourth — and that run came around to score as well. With a 9.00 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over nine innings in his first two starts, fantasy managers may want to steer clear of Saturday’s matchup against the Mets in New York. • Patrick Sandoval gives up five runs against Astros
Patrick Sandoval wasn’t at his best in Sunday’s no-decision against the Astros, surrendering five runs on eight hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 27-year-old southpaw struck out four batters on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. The Astros got to him for three runs in the third inning on run-scoring hits from Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Jeremy Pena. He then gave up a run-scoring double to Jose Abreu before exiting in the sixth, and Abreu ultimately scored as well. Sandoval got nine whiffs on 99 pitches on the day — five on his changeup — while posting an underwhelming CSW of only 19 percent. He’ll carry a disappointing 5.23 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 75/31 K/BB ratio (72 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Giants in San Francisco. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:54 pm
  • Justin Verlander struggles again in no-decision
Justin Verlander struggled again in a no-decision against the Angels on Sunday, giving up four runs on seven hits over his five frames.

Advice: The 41-year-old hurler struck out three batters on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Angels scratched out a pair of runs on sacrifice flies off the bat of Nolan Schanuel, added another as Mickey Moniak bunted into a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning and then Willie Calhoun smacked a run-scoring single in the fifth. Still, Verlander exited with his team leading 7-4 and in line for a victory — but the Astros’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. He got just three swings and misses on 101 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll try to bounce back as he carries a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 51/17 K/BB ratio (57 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against Tarik Skubal and the Tigers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:54 pm
